I would start with a new switch. If the rear tank is showing full and you know the tank is empty it could be a bad ground.

Your Glow plugs are getting weak,try plugging it in to the outlet it should have a cord by the front of the grille. the glow plugs are just to start it.

AE YOU SURE YOU HAVE 2 FUEL TANKS? IF SO THEN IT SHOULD BE REALLY EASY TO FIND OR IT MIGHT BE UNDER THE SEAT OR GLOVE BOX.. NOT SURE WHERE THEY MIGHT OVE PLACED IT? IF ITS A AFTER MARKET TANK INSTALL..

sounds like u have an e4od trans with a torque converter that is slipping when it try's to lock in. if you can live with it drive it if not have a new or rebuilt torque converter put in with a new seal. fords e4od trans have had all updates and modifications as of 1995. mine has been shifting ruff for the last 4 years. I will drive mine until it quits if it does.

It sounds like you might have a broken wire somewhere if you have no back brake lights.

First check your fuel system. If the fuel pump is bad you wont have any gas at the carburetor or the fuel rail if it is fuel injected. Relieve fuel pressure, find the fuel line and disconnect it. Crank the engine a couple of times and have someone watch for fuel coming out of the hose

check the fuse box under the hood. refer to owner manual for start/alternator fuse location
