If you have access to a multimeter check the power terminal. It should be at least 13+ volts if the alternator is good while the car is running. The battery will not maintain more then generally 12 volts while the vehicle is off. Be careful not to drain the battery to far as it will damage it.

Are you getting spark? You've put a 2001 engine into a 1986 body. The 2001 engine ran with an engine control module (ECM), the 1986 doesn't have that. The 1986 probably has an electronic ignition module that works with the 1986 coil and 1986 reluctor/distributor. You may want to compare the two distributors and the two coils.

Fuel filter and the lines could be clogged. Id star by dropping the tank

had this exact thing occur in my car a couple of days ago. I lifted the bonnet and the air filter pipe was blown off from the filter box and a hole was in the box the air filter sits in. This was caused by a back fire problem my car has . I put the air filter pipe back on the box and have a piece of timber and gaffa tape covering the huge hole and my car runs ok until I can yet it serviced and fixed .

Possibly the rear main seal,also check dipstick holders aren't loose or leaking at base,primarily automatic transmission fluid,might wanna look up where oil sending unit is on that model,they leak when they're bad also,hope this helps

check the fuel pressure and the float level as it may be too low or trying to flood the engine . check for vacuum leaks in all hoses.. Check that the carby is tight on the manifold.

Well first you go to the fuse box and find stop light see if it has blown if not go to the rear and remove the globe holder plug assy which has either double or single light bulb if double get test light and touch either wire and get someone to turn on the ign switch [on but not start] and also put foot on the brake pedal ,if the test light dont light test the other wire base ,if no light comes on then go to the stop light switch mostly on the brakeline connection box under the bonnet or it could have a brake switch in the cab above the brake pedal and that will have either a broken wire or switch unserviceable .

check the bulbs then check power to the bulb contacts .as it can be a break in the wire were the trunk/boot opens up.

Not too difficult.You unscrew the trim retainer, and there is a button on top of the switch behind the dash panel you push to release the knob and rod.

You may think all lines are good. Replace them if they are rubber. Cut the farthest piece loose from the truck and drop in a gallon of gas and see if it picks it up. A new fuel pump should.

WHAT WOULD U LIKE TO KNOW ,JUST RELAES THE BOLTS ON THE ALTERNATOR AND PUT ON A KNOEW BELT THERES A BOLT ON THE ALTERNATOR THAT SLIDES IT UP AND DOWN OR SIDE TO SIDE : : )

Will get a engine cleaner and clean the motor and us a water hose spray all over and see what happen..

try the pick up coil inside the distributor

You can use any oil you want. Just make sure that if you don't know what oil is in it currently that you drain the oil out and change the oil filter. Personally, I like the Chevron RPM oils and have two vehicles with over 200,000 miles that says they are good.

Replace the regulator if you know for sure the alternator is good. Even new ones go bad or bad from the store.

If it's all the way down the wire to the tank is broken somewhere and as long as the temperture gagfe is working it's getting power because the two gages share the same power supply. find the wire going to the tank and groung it and the gage ( with the key on) will go to full. If it does find where the wire connects to the top of the tank and clean the connection the other wire is the ground wire check and see that where it goes to is connected to a good ground if it all cheaks out you can put an OHM meter on the place on the tank the wire connects too and check to see if it has any OHMs to ground if it's wide open ( infinate OHMs ( no connection)) thenm the sending unit is bad and needs to be replaced. In these days of high gas prices gas is being stolen and ramming a hose down in the tank to get it can break the sending unit knock off the float arm or just bend it enouth so it stays down. find where you can get one and it they'll let you retrun ity without installing it buy it. Take it home remove your tank and then the sending unit and reconnect itto its wires and work the float up and down to see what the gauge does. Most of the time the float is damged so you can tell what's wrong with it and either put it back together or bend it back straight. if it's broken bad try the new one and if it works good put it in the tank and reinstall the tank. It's berst to do this work with the tank near empty as yopu haven't a gauge fill it and drive it about 150 miles to get it low on fuel or drain it so the tank will be light enough to handle as you remove it. Be careful about spills and figure what would happen in a spill or a fire so pick your work asrea carefully and have a least one helper to get you out if theres troble. ( Or hire the work done.)

when you go to the auto parts store to buy the parts, they usually can print you a picture of it. That is what I would try. It gets frustrating to try and find it on the internet unlees you know an exact web sit eto visit for the exact vehicle.

Check all of the fuel lines very carefully for breaks or cracks in the fuel lines, especially between the fuel tank and the fuel pump.

If the fuel lines are all in good condition then you can safely assume that the problem is in the fuel pump and you will need to replace it. (If the fuel pump is in really bad shape the engine oil on the end of the engine oil dip-stick will smell like fuel)
