Security light on dash & radio in "locked" mode

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM. (Theft Deterrent Module) The TDM is what tells your computer that the correct key is being used and that it is "OK" to allow the vehicle to start and run. These 3 parts must be in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending important signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, (normally due to a failing/broken part) the car goes into antitheft mode. The car misinterperates this and thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is NOT getting that signal from YOUR specific key. There is where the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. So basically, if that light is on, your system has some sort of failing part. This can start as an intermittent "no start", to your vehicle not running for days at a time, to the vehicle NEVER starting again. The problem is electrical and computer based, so don't count on an easy reset button, or the problem fixing itself. The hard part is isolating which part is the problem. You can spend a thousand dollars through a mechanic very easily. I have had great luck with bypassing the entire system. This way the problem will never return. It actually CAN'T ever return because it is eliminated. This can also be done yourself at a much cheaper cost. Read through this link very carefully. You'll find alot of information and pictures, along with ways to help you fix this. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Given the amount of electronic's ( computers ) on your vehicle ,it could be a lot of thing's . Hooking up a factory or professional grade scan tool that can communicate with all the control modules on the vehicle should be the first step in the diagnostic problem . Checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , communication between module errors etc..... Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop that has the proper diagnostic equipment to check it out . The power door lock system consists of the following components: • Body control module (BCM) • Driver door lock switch • Front passenger door lock switch • Door lock actuators in each of the doors • Door lock system fuse into the BCM (BCM D 25A fuse) BCM Functions The body control module (BCM) is capable of accomplishing multiple body control functions. Components directly connected to the BCM are controlled by the BCM outputs. The BCM can control its outputs based on input information it obtains from sensors and switches that are directly connected to the BCM, or by receiving information from other vehicle systems connected to the class 2 serial data link. The BCM evaluates this information and controls certain body systems by commanding an output on or off. The BCM is also capable of commanding other vehicle systems to control functions that are not directly wired to and/or controlled by the BCM. The BCM accomplishes this task by sending specific messages on the class 2 serial data link. The vehicle system capable of performing such function will respond to the BCM message. The BCM controls/monitors the following functions: • Audible warnings • Indicators control • Interior lighting • Exterior lighting • Power/automatic door locks • Keyless entry • Content theft deterrent • Personalization • Serial Power Modes • Electrical Power Management Buick Class 2 Operation Diagnosis 1998

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 2002 buick rendezvous. Now, the car starts, but the fuel gauge doesn't work. When I turn the car on, the needle goes to full and stays there, then low fuel alar

Oh my, there is no reset. You would need to remove the pump module and check the gauge sender part, maybe the float arm got jostled or bent when installing. Sorry to tell you this, it will have to be redone. This time when you pull the unit out of the tank, take a moment to connect the battery, connect the electrical connector to the pump module, turn the key to on, then check that raising and lowering the float arm makes the gauge read right. It's either this way, or let it be and figure your gas left in tank by number of miles driven.

2002 Buick Rendezvous alternator removal

To get the alternator out, I had to move that large electical fuse / relay box out of the way,and remove washer bottle and battery. then use a 3/8" drive ratchet to move the tensioner forward to get the belt off. I used a small mirrow to get a view of the back bolts on the alternator and removed them.[ I used meteric # 15 open end & closed end combo wench. Keep turning the back bolts until the alternator become loose.]

Ignition keys with the hard rubber on the finger end may have a chip in it and it has to be programmed for your ignition. It may be that your master control module needs this special signal to start your vehicle.

The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The radio generates the audible warnings through the left front speaker. The radio receives audible warning requests via the class 2 serial data line from the IPC or body control module (BCM). If the radio receives multiple audible warning requests, the warning with the highest priority sounds first. The following lists the audible warning priority and the pulse rate: Fast rate chime--200 pulses per minute Medium rate chime--150 pulses per minute Slow rate chime--50 pulses per minute Single chime Is the sound heard different from typical Audible Warnings ? Fasten Safety Belt Warning The radio activates the fasten safety belt audible warning as requested by the IPC. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio indicating the chime frequency, slow rate and duration (5 pulses). The fasten safety belt warning sounds and the fasten safety belt indicator illuminates when the following occurs: • The ignition switch transitions to ON. • The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects that the driver's seat belt is not buckled, signal is low. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the SDM indicating the driver's seat belt status. If the seat belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, the chime does not sound. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is sounding, the chime stops. If the seat belt is unbuckled after the initial transition to ON, the chime does not sound. Headlamps On Warning The radio activates the headlamps on warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio indicating the chime frequency, fast rate and duration, continuous. The headlamps on warning sounds when the following occurs: • The ignition is OFF. • The BCM determines that the driver's door is open, signal is low. • The BCM determines that the headlamp switch is in the park or head position. Key-In-Ignition Warning The radio activates the key-in-ignition audible warning as requested by the BCM. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio indicating the chime frequency, medium rate and duration, continuous. The key-in-ignition warning sounds when the following occurs: • The ignition switch is OFF. • The body control module (BCM) determines that the driver's door is open, signal is low. • The BCM determines that the key-in-ignition switch is closed, signal is low. Turn Signal Reminder The radio activates the turn signal warning as requested by the IPC. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio indicating the chime frequency, medium rate and duration, continuous. The turn signal warning sounds when the following occurs: • The ignition switch is in the RUN position. • The turn signal switch is in either turn position, sensing, within 1 second, an open to B+ transition in the turn signal control circuit, left or right turn. • The vehicle has traveled a distance of 1.2 km (¾ mi) by counting pulses on the vehicle speed input circuit. The IPC turns OFF the turn signal reminder when either the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position, or the turn signal switch returns to the OFF position, sensing, within 1 second, no transitions from open to B+ in either of the turn signal control circuits, left turn or right turn. Additional Chimes The following chimes will turn ON when an associated indicator/message turns ON in the IPC/DIC: • ABS indicator • AWD Disable indicator • Battery/Charge indicator • Brake indicator • Change Engine Oil indicator • Door Ajar indicator • Hot Coolant Temp indicator • Low Brake Fluid indicator • Low Fuel indicator • Low Oil Level indicator • Low Oil Pressure indicator • Low Tire Pressure indicator/reset • Low Washer Fluid indicator • MIL (Service Engine Soon) indicator • Oil Life Reset • Park Lamp Out indicator • Rear Hatch Ajar indicator • Service Traction System indicator • Service Vehicle Soon indicator • TRAC OFF indicator For a description of an indicator refer to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation . For diagnosis of an indicator refer to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console . Did the Mechanic check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes in the BCM or insturment cluster ? Did you try a Buick dealer ?
