1969 Chevrolet El Camino. Can a new front coil spring be shorter than the old one I took out of my 1969 El Camino.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to sub category. Anything is possible. Springs and struts should be changed in pairs, never one side only. That is what causes bucks and twists in bends.

I put a new wiper motor on a 79 el camino and it works but it dont move the wipers it just turns and i got the 2 nuts tite on the wiper transmission

Check to make sure that the "Knurled" segments on the tapered points that hold the wiper arms to the motor actuators are not worn smooth as this is what gives the actual grip required for the wiper movement. If they are worn smooth then no amount of tightening will help.

1974. Why do none of the gears work?

Not much you can do yourself other than check fluid level. A mechanic would check pump pressure, and go from there. As old as the car is, if nothing has been done to the trans in several years, the filter or valve body could be clogged up.
