It sounds like the shift fork is bent or there is so much wear in the transmission that the mainshaft endplay is excessive and the synchronizer sleeve is not engaging fully with the engagement teeth on 2nd gear. The synchronizer/blocking ring on 2nd is likely worn-out too. Figure on major expense. Not many shops still do manual transmission rebuilds. Few sources for parts. They are available, but nothing is cheap.

Try putting some stop leak in the radiator to see if that helps. You ca get it at any auto parts store.

If you know the headlight bulbs are good, it's probably a bad headlight switch. The headlight wiring for an '83 should be pretty simple and straight forward

1- fix the emergency brake contact, or make sure that the em. brake pedal returns all the way back.2- fill the reservoir with brake fluid Both of these things will turn on your brake warning lamp

If both heater hoses are hot, you could have a blend door problem under the dash. If the engine is not warming up, check the thermostat.

ok i have a 1976 k5 blazer and all of the sudden my blinkers stopped working.The hazzards work but when i hit the brakes alll of my lights stop blinking and stay solid.I checked my fuses but all is well can anyone help me? Depending on the weather stripping, it may also be possible to use a coat hanger to grab the inner door handle and pull it open.Use your Autoclub memberships, Insurance company memberships to get help. A locksmith has MASTER keys to fit in the doorlocks. The Locksmith comes out with a box of Masters for GM trucks and inserts them one-byone into the doorlock until he finds the right one.
