No. Should be able to replace fairly simply. I believe on that engine it is by the starter. The 8.1 May have it up by the oil filter as well, kinda centered on the block. But you do not have to pull the motor, but it is frustrating to get to.

Most likely you have some wiring problems. Your rear break light wiring is connected to the trailer light bundle connector. I will guess that connector has losened, or wires going into and out of the connector are loose, corroded or? There must also be good ground wire connection. That too could be the problem. usually in the connector bundle, but it may be separate. Its connections may also be affected by corrosion.

the head gaskets are blown you can believe that anytime on any engine gas or deisel that you get oil in the radiator and there water/ antifreeze in the oil pan the gaskets and or cylinder heads are bad

check the fuse under the hood

I don't know the year model you have a lot of the older ones had a circuit board that went bad.auto zone sells them on the help isle

have the OBD codes read as will tell you which sensor/switch is at fault ,this will save you time and money as could be a number of things

high voltage ignition coil problem, or ignition wire loosen.

any number of things could have happened. as long as oil and water good,factory fault. but they will argue that you did something wrong.had this happen once with dealership in Charleston sc.would not honor warranty because I was not a certified mechanic. took apart and found main bearing had spun. last crate motor for me.at least if I build it I know whos fault it is.

(1)Remove the air cleaner, looking down the primary throttle bore (front) move the throttle at the carburetor. Did you see fuel spray? if so its not a fuel related issue. (2)Next, check your battery cables. High resistance in a cable (corrosion) will get worse with heat. Heat increases resistance. You may want to replace them depending how old they are. You need to check for condition and security of how they are connected ( good tight, clean connections). Sometimes its difficult to spot corrosion with the plastic insulation on top of the cable. Corrosion is usually at the ends where the bare wire is exposed. (3) May have a bad starter. My old Ford would crank slow when hot. Found bad cables, but eventually had to replace starter too. Works great now.
