Re: 2000 Chevy Vortex

it verys greatly, as a rule we see this engines with over 150,000miles every day in our shop and some with over 200,000 miles are pretty common. and with exception of intake manafold gaskets we dont see much go wrong with them, if the engine has been serviced reguler they seam to get a good live span a few thing to watch for coolent leaks, are the most common problems we see with the engines most common are intake gaskets , and a few head gaskets( have one in the shop now for head gaskets it has 181,000 miles on it) 2nd is hard starting cold, most common cause is a weak fuel pump or crankshaft sensor, 3rd oil usage, start the engine cold and look for white or gray smoke from the tail pipe if there is avoid the truck, something to watch for is when you go to a dealer turn on the key and dont start the engine and look at the temp. gauge, a little trick a lot of dealers use is to worm the engine up first thing in the moring so when you get there the engine has already been started so you dont get to see the smoke or the engine rattle when cold, if the gauge showes any engine heat then there is probley a problem with it cold and the dealer is trying to cover it up.....but back to your question we see many of these engines with well over 100,000 miles that have never had any problems at all and many with over 150,0000 miles that have never had any problems, but every now and then we will see one that has not been taken very good care of not make it 80,000miles it is all in how well it has been serviced, one last thin this engine does not like heat if it gets a coolent leak and the owner overheats the engine it takes a lot of the life out of it and most engine failiers are do to the engine over heating.

i hope that answers you question...let me know if there is any thing else you need.

I have a 74 gmc

The fuel mixture is wrong because either the carb is badly adjusted or the choke doesn't open fully when the engine is hot.
Take the carb apart and check every single component, starting with the choke plates and the level in the bowls.

with out knowing which year PU you have i can tell you this:
The Mitchell repair manuals program is a web-based system. This means that you can get all of the repair instructions and pictures via an easy to use point and click type interface.

mitchell-repair-manuals.jpgIt's just like browsing a giant website that is only about your specific automobile. This is a good feature for all types of users, including someone who has a dial up connection. You may not be able to download the entire auto repair guide, but you can select multiple documents and print them out all at the same time.

see it at:
