1988 Chevrolet C1500 Questions & Answers
I own a 1988 gmc c1500, the electric fan behind the rad is on constantly from the second i turn the key on until i shut it off. Wondering what may be causing this?
The fan is activated by the temperature sender and turns on when it reaches a preset temperature. Yours may be faulty so switches on at a low temperature so it needs replacing (the sender not the fan).
It is also possible that there is a wiring problem and the switch has somehow short circuited so is permanently live, meaning when you turn the key the fan starts.
If it has always done this, then it is also possible that a previous owner has done the short circuit, something I have done in the past but I put it through a switch that you activate when in traffic and the air flow is low. It might be worth tracing the wires from the sender to see if there is a switch somewhere in the cab.
4 wheel drive will not engage
Depending on the model by production date. Some have hub that you have to lock in. The newer version the lock in was done in the front differential. There is a n electric plunger that locks in the 4 wheel drive. There is a harness that goes to it, check the harness to insure it is not damaged. there is a brown wire that ties back to the transmission that must be hook up for it to work properly. Last but most forgotten is you must back up to fully engage the 4 wheel drive. Hope this helps.
No pwr in pass front dr sw n why two same sw on pass side dr
You need to check for a blown fuse and any broken wire on the passenger side and if you do not find any you will need to remove the door panel an probably replace the switch.
The reason there is a sw on the driver side for both doors is so the driver doesn't have to reach over to operate the passenger side from his position. I hope I understood you question correctly.
On a 88 Chevrolet c1500 ruff idle then dies wont start back up
not much info to go on. more info would be helpful. for example does it run fine for a few then it dies. my guess is a fuel filter or pump. you can run it till it dies and then hook up a fuel gauge to see if it has any pressure. when they get hot thy will lock up. so if your suppose to have 50 psi. and it gets hot. you might not get 10 psi and it wont run with less then 30 psi if its fuel injected
Why does my brake lights/turn signals work but my running lights don't work in the rear?
I won't insult you by asking if you've changed the bulbs in the rear sockets with the proper GM-numbered bulbs (no "Made in China" junk substitutes).
Identify the tail-lamp wire from the tail-lamp sockets, and trace it back to fuse block. Truck this age, my guess is you may have rat/squirrel damage to a wire. Don't know why, but varmints love to chew wires. IF the parking lamps up front work, it isn't a fuse, is why I suggest looking for a broken wire--chances are poor that you have 2 bad lamp sockets in rear.
