How do you replace power steering belts?

Nice ride!! An oldie, but goodie. Should be easy to change the power steering belt on this one. Just loosen the mounting bolt and the adjusting bolt and push the pump toward the engine. That will loosen tension and allow you to remove the belt. Put the new belt on and move the pump out away from engine. You may have use something as a lever to help put the proper tension on, and while holding tension, tighten the mounting and adjustment bolts down. Proper tension is 1/4" deflection at the midway point on the belt. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Need to remove window knob from 1979 monte carlo.

Getting to be an old vehicle now days. The mount that the window knob mounts on is usually a star type gear that the handle is pushed onto. There should be a very small hole in the round part of the handle that an allen set can slide into. Then loosened the hanle should pull off the star gear. Once the handle is removed the inside door panel should easily pull out over the gear.

Won't start.

Ok I believe the butterfly that you are refering to is yes the choke. Normally the choke will be closed when the car is cold and after it is started it will slowly open and then the engine speed will drop to an idle. That is if things are working properly. Now if you have pumped the gas a lot trying to get your car to start the spark plugs may be to wet to fire. What you can try is manually open the choke so you know it is open and wire it open temporaraly, then hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank the engine and see if it will start. If it starts, take your foot off the gas and let it idle down and figure out the problem with the choke not opening. If it doesn't start by doing this then you need to make sure that you do have spark at the plugs, make sure that the plugs are not gas fouled. Also if its not your carb causing your problem I did read the things you have replaced
and didn't see that you had changed the module in the distributor.
Its sometimes difficult to diagnose a problem without actually having hands on.
If this information didn't help you then add to yours about the no start problem. Like it was running fine but this morning it would start, or I was driving and it quit and won't start, etc. It does help to understanding the problem better. Good Luck

'83 Monte Carlo - Miss fire at idle/accel./driving

You can have car put on scope and it wll show any irregularities in the ignition system. It can also be dowithout any equipment. First, loosing ALL 8 spark plug wires, Now place the spark plug wires loosly back on, just secure enough to secure. You might need 2 people. Being the miss is more consistant in gear, APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE , put trans into drive and raise rpm's till miss is obvious. Remove ONE plug wire at a time, TILL THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN MISS. Thats the cylinder missing. Start with the spark plug, inspect, work back to wires and cap. An EXTREME result will be NO COMPRESSION.

Recheck all your connections, battery. starter, look for fuseable link on small wire going to starter. Might want to chk.that wire with test light when key switch is in start position and see if it lights. If it does not light might be starter switch under dash on steering colume.

How do you work on a body thats all one piece...i have a 83 monte

I do this for a living 30 years now and i can help you I think. Without seeing the damage i would hesitate to tell yu if it is repairable or not. If it is damaged beyond repair, you can get a quarter cut off another car and splice it on yours, if you have never done this and do not have the tools it would be very hard to do without prior experience. If it isn't real bad i can help you to know how to go about repairing it, but then this too requires skill and would be hard for you to do without prior knowledge.

I have oil in my

best advice here is to clean it out the best you can and trade the car in quick ,it iis either a new oil cooler or a head gasket all of which are expensive repairs so let the second hand car dealer earn his money or lose money on a car like this ,i know i do work for a dealer and some of the things people trade him in?? i wouldnt have the nerve to sell anyone a dodgy motor but ?? and they always have funny north of england accents that trade in cars that need a lot of expensive repairs
