My 1997 Geo Tracker sdtarted
Can't tell from here but apperantly one or more parts to your suspension or brake system have failed, sounds more like brake or wheel assembly or trans axle to me. Take the front wheels off and have them checked out before driving again.

Went from 20 to 12
I had the same problem with my S-10 and it threw a code intermittently. There were
two problems, a cracked seal on the gas cap and an intermittent heater problem
with the mass air flow sensor. The truck ran but got terrible gas mileage with
the mass air flow sensor problem. You might be able to have the codes checked
at an autozone or other parts store that offers this service free. Also check the
coolant level at the radiator and not just the return tank, mine had become disconnected due to age and allowed coolant to escape the radiator and not
return to the block but appeared full because the line had fallen behind the battery.

Re 1999 tracker, 1.0 engine,
Is the burnt odor similar to a burnt wire? I would like to ask what you meant when it eats alternator? Is there a physical damage or it does not charge. Was there any tests done prior?
Thanks

Hello, i checked the wires
You have three other coils that are working. If you test the brown wires on those (brown/whit, brown/yellow, brown black) and the test light flashes than your on the right track with the bad PCM. You should see a flash or pulse with the test light as the PCM turns the ground on and off to trigger the coil.
If it where wiring (brown wire shorted) than it would burn up as soon as you turned the key on. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

How do I repair the
It could just be stuck. Try picking up a can of WD40 and spraying it in the lock and up underneath the handle into the mechanism. Then work the handle back and forth and see if this helps. A lot of times road grime will get in there and gum up the works. Also, try not to get WD40 on the paint, if you do then wipe it off immediately and it wont hurt it any. Hope this helps!

My daughters 2003 Chevy Tracker
Check the fluid to see if it is brownish vs reddish. If brownish, the transmission is overheating and mostlikely needs to be rebuilt. Good luck

How to open the front
The carrier comes out by removing the rear cover and axles.(consult a haynes or chilton manual for axle removal instructions) If you intend to replace the carrier or pinion bearings, before you start thinking about doing that be aware that you need torque wrenches, dial indicators and lots of experience in order to get it done correctly. Otherwise, you will spend lots of $ on parts and it will self-destruct within a week.
For about the same price as a complete bearing set, you can usually locate a complete used assembly (make sure gear ratio is exactly the same as the old one) . Then, just bolt it in, change the lube and go!!

Belt broke - it is
I assume you're speaking of the serpentine belt that snakes its way all around the front of your engine turning the alternator, water pump, AC, fan, etc. My guess is that you'll be replacing the belt along with either the idler, tensioner, or both. In my experience, you're better off to change both of these pulleys along with the belt anyway as they're not expensive, and they tend to fail by either causing an annoying squeak / squeal, or by freezing up and ruining the belt.
The reasonable argument against it being alternator, power steering, or water pump, is that you don't mention any instrument panel warning lights coming on before the belt failed. Had one of these failed, you would know about it almost instantly.
By the way, it is not bad etiquette to ask for the replaced components. If he balks at the suggestion, you would certainly have reason to believe he isn't being totally honest with you.
Good luck.
