Cannot find where the transmission fluid would go
is the car auto or manual??
if auto you pour fluid down the tube you check your fluid at. make sure when you check the trans fluid the car is running or you will get the wrong reading.
if car is manual then you have to get a rachet and remove the plug on side of trans and pour the right gear oil into it (note not trans fluid GEAR OIL)
Horn not working due to clock spring
The part is still available from GM. It is part # 94857236.
You must be careful when replacing the clock spring as it controls the SRS system.
You will need to remove the steering wheel airbag and and the steering wheel itself.
Important: Perform this procedure in order to prevent deployment of the
air bags from the reserve energy supply power.
- Remove the CIG and IGN Fuses from the junction block (1), which is located
near the base of the steering column.
- Remove the lower steering column trim cover.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels
are pointing straight ahead.
- Remove the key from the ignition switch
- Release the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector
locking mechanism.
- Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector C3
- Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) compartment (2)
- Release then unlock the IP module connector (1).
- Disconnect the IP module pigtail.
- Release and unlock the driver and passenger seat module connectors.
- Disconnect the driver and passenger seat modules.
ABS problem
It sounds like the computer is receiving an erratic signal from one of the wheel speed sensors. This problem is quite common when a wheel speed sensor is not quite dead yet but is on the way out.
If the ABS light is on the problem should be easily diagnosed with an ABS capable scan tool.
Can not find where to check transmission fluid
That's because there isn't one, only automatics have a dipstick. Manuals have a fill port located on the side of the transmission if you loosen it and gear oil (not the same thing as automatic transmission fluid) drips out or is level with the hole it's full if not it needs more. Most oil change places will check it for a couple bucks, unless you have a lift it's not easy to get to.
No pwer to accessories after new battery installed
there could be a couple of things going on here. that you have no power to accessories suggests that you have a bad ignition switch. some of the contacts in the switch are letting power through or you would not have starter turning over, but some other things are not getting power or you would have power to accessories. you might see if you have brake lights or hazard lights before you turn the key, those circuits should be hot all the time. after you turn the key to run, not start, things like headlights and turn signals should work. normally if you have starter turning over but no start you would look for fuel and spark but sounds like you have other issues that need to be addressed first. hope that helps
Check engine light keeps coming on
The 1st thing to do is find out which one of over 100 codes is stored in the engine computers memory, whenever the check engine light comes on a code for that problem is stored in memory. You can go to any Auto-Zone parts store and they will run this code read test for free, then post them back here and I will help figure out what has gone wrong.
My horn doesn't work and the airbag light is on
Some Chrysler products have this "clockspring issue" (my Plymouth Voyager did) and it can cause those symptoms. I did an online search for recalls on the 1998 Prizm and came up with nothing mentioning a clockspring, so that is probably not be related to your car. I can think of a couple of possibilities: 1) You have two separate problems - you had an air bag issue, and now your horn died (you could try replacing your horn to see if that problem goes away).
2) You have a problem that is on a circuit that is connected to the same circuit card in the car's computer that controls the air bag and the horn, and because they're all on the same "circuit" your seeing problems in these other systems.
I would suggest doing electrical checks (fuses, wiring, connections, etc. - be careful around the airbag and it's circuitry (you might want a technician to do this).
Dash and taillights not working
Inside fuse cover will tell you witch fuse is for what, if not there it should have a list in your owners manual, if there is neither one, an auto parts store may be able to tell you. Or you can test light each one, or pull one at a time out until you find the burnt one.
1998 chevy prism
Yeah, but not by you!
An automotive aircon place will have to do it. It requires bleeding the system (takes almost half a day) and then refilling with whatever gas your country dictates. (it's different over here)
If there is a leak, that's more time for the aircon guy.. they put a special dye in and use a black-light to inspect for leaks. Then they repair and fill.
I have a check engine on indicating on my car
you can go to your local parts store and buy an inexpensive code reader(make sure you get one that can reset codes as well).....plug it into your car to find out why the light is on and reset the light.
hope this helps....good luck!
Brake and parking lights
It has been my experience that the type of problem you describe is usually caused by a bad ground at one or more of the lights, or by a bad chassis ground. I suggest you first ensure that the battery, chassis, and engine grounds under the hood are good. If they are you might try pulling one lamp at a time to see if you can find one that when pulled, the rest work normally. If you find that lamp, your problem is there. Good luck
Ignition switch
is the vehicle out of gear and in the park position? if so try and turn the steering wheel left and right at the same time turn the key back and forth slowly. repeat this proccess several times. also move your shifter back and forth several times slowly. if this doesn't solve the problem, there is a pin inside the steer wheel coloumn that is the problem. you will have to remove the steering wheel column covers to solve this. good luck ....please rate this.......thanks
