98 prizm high beams don't work/replaced switch on steering column already.

There are several things that can keep your high beam headlamps from working including the headlight/dimmer switch (which you say you have already replaced), the DRL relay, The DRL Module, The DIMMER relay, or any of the wiring in between all of these components. It would be much cheaper to diagnose the system to see where there is power and where there is not so you can fix it correctly without replacing a bunch of things that does not fix your lights. The entire system can be diagnosed with a 12-volt test light and a set of wiring diagrams.

  • No dipstick on this transmission. This transmission has two plugs on the transmission itself, underneath the vehicle.
  1. Turn the vehicle off for this transmission.
  2. Pull the top plug first. This is the check / fill hole. If fluid comes out of that hole then the fluid level is OK. If it does not then add until it just barely seeps out and this is the proper way to fill your transmission.
  3. You can continue by pulling the bottom plug (with a fluid pan underneath to catch all the transmission fluid) and let all the fluid drain.
  4. Not plug the lower hole.
  5. Now fill the transmission from the upper hole.
  6. Now plug the top hole.
  7. That is a transmission drain and fill and you just saved $60+ that a shop would charge in labor.

My 1998 chevy prizm has a squealing noise from the

Hello ed.... The serpentine belt or one of the pulleys that it turns is making that annoying sound. Carefully inspect the belt using a flashlight to illuminate any rips or tears, and inspect each of the pulleys looking for grease or heat marks.

Often, the belt has to be replaced and when that is being done, each pulley can be closely examined for wear and tear, even being frozen up. Joe

Just want to disconnect the A/C compressor on my

just unplug the electrical connector at the compressor,it freewheels when not in use so it has no affect on the horsepower at that time,if you still want to completely remove it you need to have the refrigerant professionally removed( federal law) then you can remove the compressor and install a take up pulley to install in its place, but i would just unplug it,besides it will have higher resale value should you trade later and the A/C compressor is still on it

Usually you can get the belt for the model of your car that came without air conditioning (Canadian model) and you can either remove the compressor and install the shorter belt or just install the shorter belt and not wrap it around your A/C compressor Pulley.

Our 1998 chevrolet prizm started

It's that infamous "chip" in the key that becomes a nightmare to many. The security light may or may not start flashing. Sometimes it stays on steady. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it will start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
QUICK FIX TRICKS
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down with use and so do the keys causing the security to fail.
2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, I'm sorry I have no quick fix...
CHEAP FIX: Bypass the chip in your key. This is temporary, but effective until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out. Then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 6-7 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.
----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/

If you're gonna tear your car apart anyway, just do this next fix and bypass it all together. Its more money, less work, and a PERMANENT fix. Up to you tho.

NEVER WORRY AGAIN FIX: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. It took longer to find the "theft deterrant module" so i could remove it, than it did to actually wire in the "Bypass module" from Newrockies. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back guarantee and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... It can cost anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link.
-----> http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081 ----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey system out of your car all together. If you want more info on how this system works, click on that Newrockies link and scroll down to the last link on the bottom of the home page. "The VATS/PassKEY/Passlock Bypass Tutorial" This link explains exactly what is happening and why. Once you understand how this works, you're going to be pissed at GM but happy you found Newrockies.

It works for:
Any GM, Saturn, or Isuzu Vehicle with VATS or PASSKey or PASSLock security systems.
If your car has the chip in the key or in the lock cylinder, then you can save it with this Full Bypass.
It works for, but is not limited to these vehicles. These are just what are KNOWN to me. More vehicles will definitely end up being on this list:
