Procedure remove replace transmission

your in for a good time! front wheel drive transmissions are a pain! anways here it is in short, jack up the car put it on stands, remove tires and bungee calipers out of the way. disconnect lower control arm and slide out axles on both sides. disconnect transmission cooler (if present) and all lines and electronics such as speedo sender and any sensors along with the starter. undo bell housing bolts and any support brackets (leave the most easily accessable bellhousing bolt in for the moment) hook up a cherry picker lift to the transmission and then remove the final bolt. youll then need to slide the transmission away from the motor and up and out of the engine bay (trust me its harder than it sounds youll have to wiggle it around and fight it to get it out) be sure to have a floor jack under the motor to support it and also move the motor up and down slightly to help give you a better angle to get the tranny out. you may also need to loosen the motor mounts to gain a little wiggle room just becareful about moving it to far and break off sensors or stretching wires. again this is the process in short and your particular vehicle may require a few additional steps. i always recommend purchasing a haynes or chilton repair manual for these kind of project, they only cost about 15 bucks and will describe these repairs in detail along with pictures and step by step instructions. anyways good luck!

Having issues keeping the battery charged.

I think it's doubtful that your starter is draining the battery. Once your starter is engaged upon start up, it is done with its job, and it is not needed until the next start up. It does sound like your starter is going bad. If all of the electrical parts seem to come on when you trying to start it, it should have plenty enough juice to start it. One possible cheap solution is it could be the starter relay. The relay takes power from your battery and routes it through to your starter. If this isn't working, your starter isn't even getting any juice. I hope this is the problem. I have seen many starters replaced that should not have been because fo a bad starter relay. You would have to Google that info on a Monte Carlo. I could not tell you where it is on any Chevy.

My 1998 monte carlo runs as long as u put gas down

Is the fuel pump turning on? You should hear a 2 or 3 second buzz or hum from the rear (the pump will be on for that long) when you turn the key to on. If you hear nothing, check the fuel pump fuse, could be in the fuse panel inside the car, or under the hood in the relay/fuse box.If you don't hear it, the pump may have failed. To be certain, one needs to check if there is any gas under pressure at the engine. Or one could check for power at the fuel pump connector when the engine is being cranked over-if power there, but pump does not work, pretty certain it is a failed pump-tank will have to be removed to change the pump.If the pump is working, next thing to check would be the fuel injectors and injector circuit. There should also be a fuse for the injectors-probably in the under hood fuse box.

Where is transmission filter

My understanding is that it is inside the transmission. You drain the fluid (hopefully there is a drain plug) and remove an access cover plate, or more likely, the transmission's bottom cover to access the filter. If no drain plug, oil will "self-remove" when you loosen the cover - be sure you have a large drip pan with at least a gallon capacity or lots of oil absorbent (kitty litter works well!).
