1998 Chevrolet Lumina - Page 9 Questions & Answers
What would make a 98 Lumina just shut offf while driving
There are a few things that can cause this , the first thing i would do would be to have the computer scanned to see if there are any codes stored in the computer. these codes are very helpful.this could be caused by a bad crank sensor that acts up sometimes causing engine to stall out, then there is the ignition control module but i would check the crank sensor first.
1998 lumina wont start
Someone will need to figure out if you are lacking fuel to the injectors, spark to the plugs, or compression to proceed.
Where is the hazard light button located
hi, on the right side of the steering wheel..mine broke and i had to use a screwdriver to click and unclick the hazards. Maybe yours broke too and is an "inny" not an "outty" screwdriver in that little hole, easy fix : )
No brake lights ( bulbs are good)
I had a similar problem with my 98 lumina. My interior lights were out as well as my brake lights. I believe a fusible link was blown. I bypassed this by taking the headlight switch off and running a wire from the red power wire to the brown wire. All my lights and dimmer work well and have had no problems with it.
How easy it to replace the front struts and read
If you have all the tools and some experience in front suspension work it is fairly easy. If you don't have a spring compressor for the struts do not try this at all for without the compressor to use the job is very dangerous.
Replacing thermostat on 3100 sfi v6
1. drain coolant from radiator
2. unbolt and remove the water neck from the engine block (it's attached to the upper radiator hose) and scrape any leftover gasket material off of the mating surface w/ a razor or gasket scraper, being careful not to actually gouge the metal
3. pull thermostat out of engine block (it's easy to see w/ the water neck off)
4. scrape any gasket material off mating surface on engine side, being even more careful not to gouge the metal here
5. place new t-stat on engine side opening
6. place gasket over the thermostat (you can put a thin bead of RTV sealant on both sides of the gasket if you wish, some people think it's overkill, but i hate doing things twice)
7. replace water neck
8. refill cooling system, use the little brass bleeder screw on top of the motor to bleed out the air until a steady stream of coolant is coming out after the engine is warmed up. close the screw.
