1997 monte carlo new battery and alternator but will only start when jumped
starter might be internally shorted or binding up causing the starter to require more amperage to turn. have a mechanic perform a starter draw test on it or take it off and have it tested. if you are going to have it tested take it to a good alternator/starter repair shop. autozone and oreillys cant simulate engine load and if its binding because of a bad bearing on the armature shaft, with out engine load it will test good

2003 monte carlo
Very common occurrence, the battery went open internally. Clean the cable and replace the battery if needed. Autozone does battery testing for free.
How do you jump the battery
Well different cars have different proceedures. These can be found in the owners guide of vehicle. You are pretty much always safe going car to car on the positive side of the battery. Then hook the ground up to a large peice of clean, unpainted metal on the engine itself. Or go old school and go straight to the negative between each car. If nothing is shorted out on accident I have never seen any bad reactions from computers or anything.
Flashing check engine light on 1997 Monte Carlo
If the CHECK ENGINE light come on, the PCM (computer car) have stored a fault code there; I suggest scanned this and note what fault code is there. Sometimes Autozone or AutoShop make this reader with OBD tools for free.Keep in touch.
