Horn on 96 cavilier will not honk, just get a clicking sound, already checked fuse
That clicking sound should be your horn relay and to me that tells us that the problem is under the hood. If you remove the passenger side headlight you should be able to access the horn itself. If you take a rest light and probe the connector at the green wire and have someone honk the horn while you have the test light on the green connector and the other end clipped to a good ground source the light should light up. If so you will need to get a replacement horn, if not you need to look at the wiring between the horn connector and the firewall.
How do i disconect check engine light
Take it to a shop and have it scanned to find out what the problem is. Your cars computer gets input from sensors, if something is wrong or out of spec the light comes on. You should fix the problem right not just disconnect the light. I wouldn't go back to auto zone they sound like idiots!

There is no spark thus car won't start. the
The Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Ignition Control Module also control the spark. It depends on whether your vehicle is equipped with the 2.2L engine or the 2.4L engine as to where these components are located and what they look like.
1996 cavalier 4 door. can't unlock door from either inside or outside
I assume you mean the power locks.
This will require you to do some electrical testing, if you have a DVOM, you can figure this out. It is more than likely a bad switch and you will just have to replace it. However, it may be a blown fuse or an open somewhere in the circuit, try checking the fuses prior to anything else. They will be located in the interior fuse block. If the fuse is ok, remove the door lock switch and test for 12v at the connector with the dvom, if you find 12volts, replace the switch, if not, start tracing the wiring through the vehicle.
How to check the fuel pump in a 1996 cavalier
you need a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure, it needs to be 35lbs pressure. if you don`t hear the pump working try hitting the fuel tank while someone is trying to start it. if it starts the pump is no good, however this doesn`t necessarily work all the time. these are the easiest ways. next you will have to use a volt meter and find the power wire and ground wire for the fuel pump at the tank.
Hoqw do I fix the TCC release switch on a 1996 cavalier?
if its a P180 code fix it NOW there is a check ball stuck in your valve body. I ended up burning up the 2-4 band in my tranny due to same problem its a simple fix don't even have to pull tranny just drop pan upon disassembly I discovered all the clutches were good still I only burnt up the band but what is the point of just changing band if your going to take it out/apart might as well rebuild it too P180 code appeared at around 130k tranny wasted at 160k. A buddy of mine is mechanic at dealership said if u fix P180 code right away he has seen trannys (4l60e) that were maintained turn 300k before
Whirring in the alternator with engine off
Diagnostics is required here for an accurate answer. That said, have you tried disconnecting the NEGATIVE cable from the battery and does that stop the whirring? I am suspecting a faulty Voltage Regulator. there are a few different styles on that vehicle and you'll need to match up the one you have.If you've noticed a drain on your battery overnight then I would certainly start there.
Hope this helps!!
