1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What would cause my 84 monte carlo 305 only fire on 4 cylinder
Bad pick up coil in distributor or worn shaft. The wires on the pick up coil should have 500 ohms to 1500 ohms resistance.
Move the wires and vacuum advance while testing, reading should not change. Then test resistance from one coil pick up wire to distributor housing this should be infinity.
Wiggle the shaft and see if there is any sideways movement.
1984 montecarlo light don't work when u pull the
Headlights being the same age tend to fail around the same time. Sometimes one will go out and you are not aware of it until the other fails. in this case the high beams should work also headlights are on a different fuse from all others.
How to remove distributor on 1984 monte carlo 305 v8
bring engine to top dead center #1 with the timing marks. remove distributer cap and note position of rotor direction and mark on the distributor housing were the rotor is pointing. also mark the position of the distributor mark to a position on the motor, then unbolt the distributor holding bolt and remove. pull up on the distributor and note which way the rotor moves as you pull the distributor out. again mark where the rotor is pointing when the distributor is out. the reason for the marking of rotor position and distributor position is so when you reassemble you line up the marks to get it into the proper position when the distributor is back in place. then you have to check the timing and set. as far as the pickup coil remove the distributor gear lock pin remove the gear and remove the distributor shaft to replace the coil. reassemble in reverse order.
How to change a fuel filter
I can't completely remember the exact location on the Monte Carlos, but most older cars it's located on the fuel line just before the fuel line hooks up to the carb. Should be two small hose clamps holding it.
Carburetor is leaking gas on the headers? What
i`m sure you have check this but i`ll go over it just in case.make sure the fuel line connection at the carb is not leaking and check the fuel line itself for leaking.if the gas is coming out of the carb then you probably will have to have the carb rebuilt with a new float and needle and seat.this is cheaper than buying a rebuilt because you don`t know how long the rebuilt has been sitting on a shelf as things dry out.
No spark leaving coil
i would immediately suspect the ignition control module. you may be able to have it tested for free at Autozone.
It is held in with two screws and plugs in. You can google the part to identify it under the hood. hope this helps.
