Is the distributor actually spinning when you crank it there isnt that much to check, power to the module, signal from module timing and coil

Fuel pressure tester will tell you. Turn on key see if u can hear it . Could be engine sensor as well see if it starts while with spray bottle spray gasoline straight into throttle body while crankin engine see if it starts

Clean throttle body,change fuel filter,air too,

18436572 going clockwise starting with the post facing the number one cylinder if the distributor is placed correctly.

i'd check the air intake and vacuum pipes , ducts for any sign of leaks etc as a starting point

I'm just asking, but how do you know its boiling? What are the running problems you are getting?

Firing order for a 305 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The distributor turns counter clockwise and #1 should be the 5 o'clock position looking down at the top of the distributor.

Does it feel like it is shifting in and out of overdrive ?

If your question is - what is the normal operating engine temp, the answer is around 200-210 degrees depending on the air temp and the amount of power the engine is making.The thermostat opens at 195 degrees.

I would check this out with a GM service dept.
