It's been a while. But it is either the ignition control module in the distributor. Or the coil. Both will have this symptom.

Make a nocking noise from the engin

What kind of noise. First of all is your oil full? Is it a tapping noise, or a thud from below. Does it squeal? you need to be more specific.

Just put motor in 85 gmc. 305. it idles but

Check the sequence of the plug wires to see if they are connected right. If correct check the position of the rotor with number one piston at the drivers very front cylinder
That cylinder should be all the way to the top and the rotor should be facing that #1 plug wire connection

My 1985 chevy 305 gets 4mi to the gallon

Check your ignition timing at 3500 rpm you should have about 40 degrees of advance If not, something is sticking in the distributor, either the vacuum or mechanical advance. This will cause a big reduction in fuel economy. Also, check your tire pressure. The cfm on a rochester is really not important. The primary bores are so small and they are the only thing allowing the mixture in most of the time.

I have a pass caliper sticking its on the front I

If your brake job was a professional job, return your vehicle for adjustment. They should have serviced the calipers as a part of the repair. If you told them to NOT service the calipers to save the couple bucks ... well now you will have to pay it.

Please get this repaired before there is a serious problem.

thank you

I have 1985 pickup w/305 the problem is the carb.

your uncles olds probably has a 425 or a 455 engine in it. anyways, your carb, either 2 barrel or 4 barrel, is 24 years old and is in need of an rebuild. you call call around for an estimate or buy a carb already rebuilt and that should solve your problem. the older carbs will not have the same emissions fittings/hardware and would probably not pass an emissions test.

How do i change out the shift indicator on an 85

You have to drop down the column by removing the two front bolts that hold it on, you can remove the bezel by removing the screws off of it and you can remove the clip that holds on the cable to the outer shift bezel and remove two screws holding the shift indicator on and install the new one as you see old one attached. Normally all that happens is the spring or cable breaks. Then you have to slide it on the bezel to get it to read the right gear.
