white smoke from exhaust

i have a 1994 chevy truck 350 engine. driving yesterday all was well, turned it off & went in the store when i started the truck it had some white smoke coming from the tailpipe when i accelerated ALOT of white smoke came out the tailpipe. this lasted for about a mile & went away. truck ran fine idled smooth, no power loss. started it up this morning & looked good for about 15 seconds & the white smoke started again. get out on the road accelerate and ALOT of white smoke if more than 1/2 throttle, just some at anything less for a couple miles then no more smoke. If i shut it off briefly like to run in 7-11 and get a coke no smoke when i start it. if its off for any more than 10 min lots of smoke when starting out then it goes away. The smoke smells a little of coolant, but i have checked my oil and it still looks like oil (no milkshake like appearance) the engine does surge a little bit on startup when completely cold but goes away as soon as i step on the gas. I know this is potentially easy (gasket) or a disaster (cracked head/block) I am recently unemployed (yay economy) so a shop is pretty much out. An intake/head gasket is something i can definately do but i need some help narrowing down what could just suddenly cause this. there was no gradual warning and the engine never overheats.

Hello;
The white smoke is from coolant entering the combustion chamber(s). Coolant can enter through the water passages sealed bu the head gasket. You have probably blown a head gasket. You should check your coolant level. You may have acracked head if you continue to drive it and overheat. The temp gauge only reads when exposed to coolant, not air. Take out thhe spark plugs and look them over. A white glossy apperance will indicate water in the combustion chamber. You may need to surface the head once you have it removed so that it is flat. Hope this helps.
Thanks;

4wd won't engage on a 94 Chevy K1500

I have replaced the actuator, disconnected the linkage and engaged by hand to make sure adjustment was correct, verified that the fuse is not blown and that there is power through the fuse block. I have also verified that the transfer case is engaging and the front driveshaft is spinning. I have no voltage at the actuator plug so I'm thinking it is a switch I have read about. I can't find the switch on the transfer case. I see where the wires go into the case and there is no switch from that point to the actuator itself. Is the switch inside the case and do I have to remove the case to get to it?

Open drivers door and its on the left end of the dash, little door that pops off. Taillight fuse will be in there. There also should be one under hood on top of left inner fender.

How to remove 1994 chevy pickup fuel tank

How to remove 1994 chevy pickup fuel tank

Pulling the tank is a hassle best avoided. If you just need to change the pump/sending unit it is way easier to lift the bed of the truck and hold it in place with lumber scraps. If you have your heart set on removing it then why not just do it once. Most of the guys around here just cut an access hole above the pump location ( with the tank removed ) then fab up and weld in a frame with a recessed lip and a plate to drop in.

1994 Silverado died and has no spark or fuel.

I have a 1994 chevy K-1500 with 5.7 and auto transmission. It died on me while driving. It didn't sputter or anything it just died. It will crank but not start. After I towed it home I found that it has no spark or fuel. I have power to the ignition control module and I've changed the ignition control module with a new one. It still does not have spark or fuel. I have checked all the fuses. I performed the electrical tests on the coil per the Haynes manual and it checks out. Coil wire has 2.5K ohms resistance. Pick up coil? ECM? What?

Does your check engine light illuminate in the run position, key on engine off? It should do a "bulb check" by illuminating key on engine off. If it does, now would be a good time to scan it for trouble codes. If it does not illuminate, and you cannot communicate with the ecm/pcm with a scan tool, you need to start by locating a wiring diagram of your ecm, or pcm, whichever it contains. Once you've located a wiring diagram its time to find your ecm/pcm, remove the electrical connector and start checking your powers and grounds to the ecm/pcm. Use a test light that has a significant amp draw to test your power feeds, an ohm meter can deceive you by showing 12v, but that wire may be cracked and full of corrosion, preventing sufficient current flow. You can use this same method to test the integrity of your ecm/pcm grounds by connecting the end of your test light to positive battery voltage, and touching the tip to the ground pins of the connector. If you have good power and grounds, the fault lies within the ecm/pcm.
