I have a 5 Speed 1985 Volkswagen Diesel Jetta...It

The diesel is quite a simple system. Just fuel and compression. No ignition to worry about. However there are a few things to look at.

If you have the glow light going on and turning off to confirm heat at the cylinder then it is not a glow plug. Even quite cold is should start after a few turns as the compression builds.

Fuel. Pull the fuel supply from the connection at the first injector (right hand side). Turn the engine over. If you have fuel there then it is not fuel.
If no fuel then you have a problem with the fuel pump or filter. Filter is on the lift side of the engine near the air filter. Loosen a line and check for fuel entering an exiting the filter. It should have flow in and out.

If you have fuel to the fist injector then you most likely have a compression problem. That is a head gasket. If a head goes on a diesel the compression is not high enough to ignite the fuel.

This is where I'd start looking. If I can help further just ask.

Please rate this answer.

Thanks, Adrian

Where can I find the wiring diagram for a 1985

There are several depending on what you are looking at. I have not found a good set via the internet unless you want to order a set or purchase a manual.

The best source is a manual. The best is Robert Bentley version or the Haynes. I got mine from the library. Go and ask and if they don't have one they will often be able to get one from another branch.

Sorry but if I scan and send a copy if violates the copyright for the manual.

It is best anyway to have a copy at hand and to see the full set of diagrams.

Hope this helps.

I have a 1985 volwagen jetta GL, when I turn the

The ignition switch is where you insert your key and for a car which is used primarily for shorter trips (frequent starts and stops) or a longer period of time (14 years will qualify) it isn't uncommon to have to replace it.
Depending on how securely the lock is installed, it may not be possible to do this yourself. Most cars try to make it difficult for thieves to 'pop the (lock) cylinder' and reach the exposed switch mechanism and drive away. I know on our vehicles, the lock is secured with a bolt with a twist-off head so once installed, they must be drilled out.

Bad braking problem

If the pads and master are new, the only other place to look is to the calipers and brake cylinders. Did you properly bleed the system when you did the master? If so, the seals in the calipers are probably blown. This is quite common on older cars... the added pressure from new pads and a new master is sometimes enough to blow the seals in the calipers. They can be rebuilt on the cheap, but you'll need a qualified mechanic to do the work. If you want to do it yourself, I suggest giving autozone a call to see how much a new caliper will be. I suggest replacing the two in the front at the same time. You might check the rear drums (unless this is a GLI or Carat, in which case, caliper/rotor) to see if there are any signs of leakage. If it's leaking, replace it. You can also get calipers from the junkyard... Consider finding a Mark II Jetta or Golf that was wrecked. Then you know the brakes were probably working fine at the time of the wreck. A junkyard shouldn't charge you any more than $10 for a caliper. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Fiat uno struggles to idle on its after i have warmed it up using

Would this be the 1108cc or 1372cc model Uno ? You will find the vacuum advance unit attached to the distributor. Check the pipe connection from the vacuum advance to the carburettor - loose or damaged. This is normally the main cause for uneven idling/stalling. Alternatively the carburettor needs adjustment via the carburettor idling screw. Hopefully this will help. Good luck.

Odometer doesn't work, is it something i can fix?

More than likely your lead gear for your odometer is spinning on the shaft and not advancing the odometer or tripometer. You will need to remove the speedometer from the cluster to verify. once the speedometer is removed you will find a metal/gray colored gear next to the odometer digits. Take a small flat tip screw driver while holding the odometer digits in place with your finger, try and spin the gear. If the gear spins this is your problem. OdometerGears.com has the three different sizes of gear for you to fix it.
