1997 GMC Jimmy - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I change the receiver drier in my `1997 jimmy I have to pour oilin the receiver ?
Well you can.
Normally, you would run a vac pump to pull all of the air out of the system, then allow the vac to pull oil back into the system before you add freon. But if you don't use a vac pump, you'll have to add oil before you hook everything up.
Make sure you cycle the compressor a few times before you start adding freon if you don't use a vac pump.
Timing Problem??
pull # 1 plug out,put screwdriver in cylinder head and see what mark you need to use, also on vortex there is a dot on the distributer gear that must be lined up with a lateral on the distributer ,so when it drops in it will be on # 1 firing cylinder
How to change a front wheel bearing on a 97 Jimmy?
Vibration is usually caused by drive shaft universal join wear, but could be tires. A bad wheel bearing will usually only make a noise and you would feel a roughness in the cab or the steering wheel. You can check the U-joints by going under the vehicle, grabbing the drive shaft and see if there is lateral play at either end. If it is this, you will cause a lot of damage if it comes loose at either end, so you should deal with it promptly.
HOW DO I CHANGE THE EVAP CANNISTER ON 1997 GMC JIMMY
The canister is located at the rear of the truck behind the left wheel. It is easiest to jack up the truck and remove this wheel to get at it. Remove the hoses from the back of the canister, and then the four bolts holding the canister frame (two at back, two in the wheel well). Remove the canister from the frame, mount the new one in the frame and install (reverse the procedure). While you are at it, you should consider replacing the vent solenoid valve back there as well. This valve is at the other end of one of the hoses connected to the canister, and often fails sooner or later due to the road debris getting into everything under the truck.
Where is the fuse for the starter located
The starter has a relay, not a fuse. Check your owner's manual. Switch the starter relay with the headlamp relay or another relay that is the same and see if that works. If it does, you have a bad relay. Get one cheap at pick a part/
