I put new distibuter in and it wont run unless i

That'd be my guess. Get number one cylinder back up on top dead center and on the compression stroke. Pull the cap and make sure the rotor is point where it should be, if you made a mark. If it's pointing 180 degrees out, spin the motor around one more time and line up the dist. If it's a tooth off get a large flat head screwdriver, a flashlight, and a mirror. Peer down into the dist hole. You'll see the top shaft of the oil pump. Use the screwdriver to turn it counter-clockwise about the width of one of the teeth on the cam gear on the dist. Reinsert the dist and align properly.

I presume you have a timing light and that's where you're getting your reading. Come people might just say time it by ear at this point. On a 30 year old truck it may just be a matter of preference. I know people on both sides of the fence. About half would say leave it alone and time it by ear. The other half would say R & R it.

If you're going to be the one to bury the truck. You can leave it. Whose going to know as you drive by.

If it's going to Barrets Auction, R & R it.

1987 gmc s15 2.8 litre. Clutch only goes half way

I don't know that specific vehicle, but if its a hydraulic clutch it sounds like either you have a leak and your clutch fluid is low, or the master or slave cylinder could be bypassing internally. Check the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder. If its low, you should top it off with brake fluid and will probably have to bleed the system. Also look for leaks. You can probably find info or a video online of how to bleed the system. Its a bit hard to explain without illustrations or pictures. Not really very difficult to perform. Good luck.

Have you taken off the pivot bolt or bolts at the bottom of the alternator? It might be a long single bolt or two short bolts where it attaches at the block.

Engine clatters something awful. i changed

I wouldn't spend any more money on it until I had that engine checked over by a licenced mechanic. It could be somethi ng as simple as leaky manifolds or more probably a knock which means a bearing has turned, or excessive play which means it is worn out.
You are likely to be in the market for another engine. Hope this helps.

Will 87 s15 2.8l throttle body sorta run if fuel

If the punp is bad it won't run at all. Check the throttle body injectors to see if fuel is coming out of both injectors. Sounds like one of the injectors is not working. If one is not working you can check to see if it is the injector or wiring by switching injector wires and see if the problem changed from one injector to the other.

Where is the starter?

Standing in front of the engine looking down and the lower left hand side towards the rear of the engine is where it should be located. a picture of you engine compartments would be helpful. If you still can't find it, follow the positive wire from the batter terminal ( the red one) and see where it leads to, and voila, there is you starter.
