Hey Dennis.
Opppsss.. was this transmission serviced regularly?..no, ok.. this is a common problem, you will need to take it to s QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL to get the trans rebuilt..
If you live near a local drag strip, go there, ask the drag race mechanics who the best transmission man there is?? There is always one or two the drag racers relay on.. I would trust him to get it done right (BEFORE I would trust a "chain" transmission store!!!!!)
I, personally, have had two transmissions do this.. one a 96 suburban and a 95 Silverado.(both inherited and never serviced).. I found the guy that did mine this same way.. GLAD I DID.. it was less $$$$ and great work!! If no drag strip.. ask the custom car guys...
Replaceing distributor on 1996 GMC 5.7liter Sierra
Not sure but not only are there repair manuals available but also videos on You Tube that demonstrate how to change the distributor but also problems people run into. Sorry I can't be more specific but hope this gets you started
1996 gmc sierra 5.7L what would cause engine codes p0102, p0108, p0121,p0300 at same time?
p0102 is MAF mass air flow , circuit low input. Try these to reset code by trying following.
Verify that the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires. Inspect for any air leaks near the MAF sensor. Take the MAF out and clean it using a spray cleaner such as brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner. Be gentle with the sensor. Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information) Replace the MAF sensor.
P0121 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0108
EGR Barometric Pressure Sensor Input Signal is out of self test Range.
P0300
Random Misfire Detected.
How do I stop my transfer case from pumping oil into the 5 speed transmission
I am not familiar with your model.
If everything else is ok it could be there should be an oil flinger disc to keep the majority of transfer case oil away from the seal when in operation. If this has been left out the result could be as you described otherwise if there is no possibility of pressure/vacuum in either unit and the levels are ok there should be no exchange of oil.
The fact there is an exchange of oil and only the seal stands between the units then oil must be passing the seal. It would seem the seal is either not man enough for the job or is the wrong design. I don't know what an Fr9n seal looks like but the application demands either two seals back-to-back or a single seal providing a similar two spring-loaded lip design.
Is it possible the seal is being fitted the wrong way around...
