1985 Ford Econoline - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I have an 85 Ford
You should be able to hear the pump in the tank running. If you don't check the fuel pump relay. If you hear the pump running then the line/filter could be plugged. The white relay is the tank selector relay, the green relay is the fuel pump relay. If the green relay is bad you will have a bad time getting the replacement. The new relays from the dealer and parts stores are all 5 pin. The green relay is a 4 pin.
Also your genset probably has a pump that pulls from that tank on its own.

1985 classC 350 econoline motorhome
Either the fuel line from the front tank to the switching valve is plugged or kinked, or the valve is not moving all the way to that tank (if electrically switched). Pull the hose (from that tank) off at the valve--do you get good fuel flow? If the front tank is lower than the valve, try switching the fuel lines from the two tanks at the valve, and set the switch for the rear tank. If it now runs, clean the valve or replace it.

1986 e350 w/6.9 hard to start' has to turn engine
If the engine is an indirect injection, glow plugs will be necessary for starting.
A fairly reliable quick check can be made with specialised test equipment but nearly as good, if everything else on the engine and fuel system is in good order, is to disconnect the intake hose and provide a supply of hot air directly into the intake and the engine will quickly spring into life.
Personally I doubt that will happen and the result could be the engine will stagger into life.
Considering the age, I expect many things will be slightly below peak efficiency. The all-important compressions are likely to be less than perfect which means even if everything else is good the cranking speed needs to be as good as it can be, which it probably isn't.
The fuel pump is likely to be showing signs of age and allowing a certain amount of overnight fuel drain-back and be slower to recover. The fuel pipework is probably not leaking fuel but might be allowing some air to be drawn in. I once had a bad starting engine and the cause was a defective canister-type fuel filter allowing air into the system.
Experience has taught me it is best to give such a vehicle a proper birthday and to ensure what can be done at a reasonable cost, is done.
What must never be forgotten, that is fundamental to good starting, though the cost isn't reasonable, is the injector break-off pressures and spray patterns - no birthday will be complete until these have been removed and checked.
1989 Ford Econoline 150 Van will not start
Most all vehicles have main power cable to starter solenoid which is mounted on the starter where the power cable to the switch connects OR there is a separate heavy gauge red wire connected to the positive post of the battery that leads to the ignition switch. Also check your ground cable by connecting battery jumper cable to negative post on battery and other end to metal frame of van.
