2001 Volkswagen Beetle - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

I replaced my oil pan on my 2001 Beetle. It was a tough job as two of the bolts are impossible to reach around the gear box. I had to bend some tools and I am very lucky I was able to get that last bolt. It was a frustrating day. If you can affort to have someone replace it for you, you can buy a new pan at Napa.

The window is out of alignment on the tracks. It has a sensor that tells it when there is too much resistance when rolling up, to keep you from getting your fingers smashed if they're in the way. The misalignment is causing too much load on the motor, so it thinks something is in the way and lowers the window back down. On my car, you can get the window to go all the way up by rolling it up and stopping before it starts to bind, then place your hand flat on the glass and pull toward the back of the car while pressing the button. The fix is that you have to pull the door panel off, and inside are two large black rubber plugs. Remove them both, reconnect the window switches, then lower the window to the point where two bolts on the frame at the bottom of the glass are visible through the holes. Loosen the bolts and adjust the position of the window, then tighten them again. Verify that it rolls up and down without binding; if not, repeat the adjustment procedure until it does. Reinstall the rubber plugs and replace the door panel. Unless there's something mechanically broken inside the door tracks, you should be good to go.

A/C is protected by fuse on battery fuse block under black cover on top of battery.

These 30amp GREEN fuses burn out the holder. Check for burn and melting . Jumper Battery RED to individual small RED wires with another '' in line fuse '' of 30 Amp...obtainable from most car parts stores.

Radio has fuse in rear.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ABOVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL YOU REPLACED THE WRONG ONE.

For VW gasoline or diesel engines it is recommended to use 5w-30 SYNTHETIC, but needs to meet the VW standard 50200-50500 (most if not all Mobile 1 oils do).

I have a 2001 VW Beetle... same thing happened to me and it ended up being that i simply needed to refill the coolant lol :)

there is no overflow, that is the reservoir. Check the hot and cold full lines which should be down about half way on the tank.

first make sure the fuel pump working you can hear littil sound when you S.W on from rear seat inside for few second > if no sound replace fuel pump with fuel filter. or you can try ( remove rear seat and littile hammer by hand. . some cases you have to check spark or stuck fuel filter.

You need to plug in computer diagnostic equipment like VCDS and interrogate address 15 airbag.

There's this website www.reliable-store.com They have books on ALL vehicles. it covers wiring diagrams, electrical diagrams, fuse diagram, torque specs, PCV, error codes, fault codes, service info, repair info, parts info, owner's/service/repair/parts/maintenance manuals etc everything totally.. I have 1987 toyota 4runner model and I keep servicing and when needed repair it on my own. worth it !!!

U will have to clear all fault codes first the start the car and let it idle for a while switch off and scan again to see with sensor caused the fault codes the first time

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .

one simple thing to check first is the ABS connector is easily knocked loose in the battery box.Lift up the upper lid on the box, it is a big oval connector with heavy gauge red wires, push it in until you hear it click hopefully! it'll at least eliminate that.
