1998 V6 2.8 liter Passat w/tiptronic automatic transmission

This VW's transmission suddenly started slamming the next gear. When shifting to 2,3, and 4 gears it will hesitate to long before dropping it into the next gear. So, when it's time to shift into the next gear it pulls it out of the lower gear and rrrrrrooohhhm bang! into the next gear! Ouch, man it does not sound pretty. It slams the next gear, unless you quickly let off the gas. If you let off the gas it'll quietly drop it into the next gear. Especaily when it's cold. After it's warmed up it's ok, unless you take it over 3,000rpm. Then you got to be really carefull.

I just changed the transmission fluid for the second time.

First time, I used a cheaper Wolf's Head trany fluid put in that "met VW trany specs". The trany was fine up to this point. However, my buddy mechanic didn't know there was a filter to change, and he didn't drop the pan etc.

Now everything was fine up to that point till after that I took it to another garage where they tuned a HAFC that garentees a 50% increase in mpg. They don't do anything that would concern the trany besides putting it on a dyno. After leaving this garage is when this transmssion started slapping the next gears. It looks like they might have done something to it, like maybe over heating the trany, or stressing it more than it should have been. They do some fine tuning, but nothing with the transmission, besides putting it on a dyno. So it kinda looks like they might have done something to it, maybe just coincidence. It could be that it's coming from the aftermarket transmission fluid. Although it was brand new trany fluid. It doesn't seem like it'd be either really. It seems coincidental.

So, what's my problem?

I had a VW mechanic change it again, (just yesterday for the second time.) I asked them to take out all of the aftermarket stuff, and check for any metal shavings or something that would indicate that something is going bad with the transmission. They said everything looked fine. They drove it, and immediatley had they same results with the VW trany fluid, so they recommended me go to a VW transmission specialist.

What would be your prognosis?

Problem solved!!

I had a tuner go over the wiring. He found a loose ground wire and grounded it properly. The transmission has been shifting correctly ever since!!! It felt like a mechanical problem, and acted like a mechanical problem, but it was just a loose ground wire.

Let this be a heads up on VW transmissions!

Thankfully it was only a loose ground wire and not a $5,000 trany!!

OBD II code P1602 on '98 VW Passat 1.8L B5

I am getting code P1602, Power Supply (B+) Terminal 30 Low Voltage. The engine is running rough, idle bounces between 600 and 1000 rpm's, rev's on its own to about 2000 rpm's and back to 600 to 1000rpm's. If I use the accelerator, it is hesitant to rev up and acts like it is trying to clear the problem if I back off of the accelerator and then re-accelerate. I have checked the voltage at the battery, the fuse block and the ECU and all three are reading 12.31 volts. All fuses are good. I am at a stand still. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Chris Hansen

Hi
Wiih most radio units....If you have the proper code and have NOT tried more than 15 times to enter an incorrect code....you should be ok.
Turn OFF ignition switch and remove the key. Switch OFF interior lights. Switch ON Radio unit and SAFE will appear.
Leave everything alone for a period of ONE HOUR. During this time NO power (no matter how small) should be drawn from the battery. This is why the interior lights MUST NOT come ON when the door is opened. Trunk should also remain closed. In the event of any power been drawn from the battery in this time...You must start all over again.
Radio should after this time return to standard mode...Usually 4 flashing bars. Then enter your code. Dont forget to lock in the code and all should be fine
All the best with it

where is oil pressure switch on vw passat

where is oil pressure switch on vw passat 1.8T 2001 Y plate?. and how do i change it?

it is on the rear of the engine, on the left hand side. it leaks oil a lot and sometimes the switch goes bad too. by left hand side i mean the left of the vehicle, not your left if you are looking at the engine from the front. you replace it from up top. it is iether just below the head on the block, or on the head itself.

For 1998 VW Passat V6 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.
The cigarette lighter fuse for 1998 VW Passat V6 is placed in the fuse box / relay plate fascia 1, (driver's door open). See pictures below:

The fuse box / relay plate fascia 1 diagram:

vw passat central locking problem

Couple of days ago I coulnt unlock or lock the doors with the remote. I could only lock/unlock the drivers door with the key. When I try to lock/unlock from passenger side, everything works. I removed the drivers side lock and found that one connection inside was oxydized. I soldered it and now I can unlock with remote but not lock. When I unplug the drivers side lock the remote locks and unlocks but as soon I plug in the drivers side, it only unlocks. Any ideas, 'cause Im slowly going crazy? :)
