Sometimes the lock needs lubrication. Spray in a little WD40, or drip a little oil from the dipstick onto the key and insert it. One time some vindictive person broke off a stick in my wife's lock. I managed to pulverize the stick with a drill.

Hello
Your engine oil should be as follows
for cold climate 5W/30 semi-synth
for moderate climate 15W/40 semi-synth
for hot climate 20W/50 semi-synth
alternative moderate climate 10W/40 semi-synth
Your coolant system holds 10ltrs from empty you will be able to get this from your VW dealer (just use red or blue anti-freeze)
If its running fine on 95 benzine but you would be better putting a higher benzine in the car.

If you have the ALDL connector it will be under the dash on the drivers side. I am not so sure VW used this connection. If you do have it though you can jump out the 2 terminals on the right upper side of the connector to pull up trouble codes. Count the check engine light flashes for the codes.
flash----flashflash is 12 and flashflash------flashflashflash is 23 watch it close so you don't miss a flash!!!
Ignition problem
It is more than likely the starter. The brushes are becoming worn and when you try starting it there is an arch between the brushes and the armature when after a few time it will make contact on then start.
No spark in a 1994 VW Golf 2.0 l
When mine failked it was due to a weak fuel relay, which was intermittent (more off than on) Replaced fuel relay and it fdired up immedately. Checked old relay and with full 12 volts it pulled in, but anything less it would not pull the contacts home.
