Hi my name is daniel,

Manual transmission?

If so there is a problem with the clutch. If its hydraulic the slave or master cylinder may be leaking and the reservoir is probably empty. If its a cable it may be out of adjustment or broken. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/jeremy_d728a59f986299fa

I have a 2009 RX8

One of two things have happened:
  1. Your power steering pump went out and needs to be replaced or,
  2. The drive belt that controls the PS pump broke
The RX8 has only two drive belts so if they are both fine and none are broken then it meant that the PS pump itself has went out and needs to be replaced.

Let me know what you think and dont forget to rate the solution.

Thank you and have a great day!

Rx8 car has trouble starting you need to step on

The RX8 has always been a bit problematic at starting, at least until Mazda started fitted uprated starters (~2006). The standard, weak starter motor spins the engine quite slowly, causing problems getting compression to start the engine.

There's various things to try...

DON'T pump the gas whilst starting - foot OFF the accelarator (might be beneficial to depress the clutch just to reduce the loading on the starter motor). Check all the RX8 owners' forums - standard advice.

DO use a confident turn of the key - keep cranking until it catches (but not for more than 10 seconds - in which case leave for 10 seconds before trying again) - don't just crank for a second or two, then retry. That's as per owner's manual.

DO ensure that you leave the engine to warm up ALWAYS before shutting off - to avoid fuel being left in the rotor - that affects compression badly if left any period of time, resulting in very poor starting (risk of flooding).

If non of the above helps, get a hot-engine compression check to ensure that the engine isn't shot. If the engine is okay, then consider getting an uprated starter motor, or 3rd-party replacement. Many 2004/2005s have had their starters replaced (I considered mine, although I've had no problem over winter :)

Changed battery in rain have lights engine turns over but no fire

The rx8 has the rotary ankles engine in it, these have porcelain tipped rotors instead of pistols and are prone to wear resulting in them not starting. The car should start with a bump or toe start. This will require an engine strip down and rebuild and should only be carried out by a qualified mechanic. (Mazda recommend rotors be replaced every 25000 miles)

Let me know if this helps

Oil pressure light is on while I'm driving

No, it is not safe to even have the engine running with the light on-your oil pressure must be low or lost-serious engine damage will result.Check oil level, and if low add to the full mark. If light goes out, you may be alright. If light is still on with car running, get to a shop immediately for diagnosis.
