Can't open trunk with key
It may be in "valet mode". When in this mode the trunk will not open
even with trunk release in the car. Do you have the "master" key or the
valet key? Check to see if the trunk lock is turned all the way to one
side. However, you will not be able to get in there if your using the
valet key, which is grey for the 6s.
You did not say anything about the Trunk Release Button
1 Apply the parking brake on your Mazda 6 (manual transmission) or place the car in "Park" (automatic transmission) if your ignition is turned on.
If your car is turned off, skip to Step 2.
2 Locate the trunk lid release button inside the car. If you're sitting in the driver's seat, you will
find the button to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard underneath the gauges.
3 Push the release button with your finger to open the trunk lid.
Not to be condescending, I just have to provide all solutions. You can always fold the back seats down, reach into the trunk and pull the trunk release button on the inside of the trunk lid.

Check battery voltage or alternator output current or connections to battery being tight. If it is indicating a transmission code, if the voltage to the computer is insufficient, the code might be false. If the voltage is correct at the computer, the transmission code might be correct and the computer is protecting the transmission by not working it heavily. If the diodes in the alternator are shorted, they would drain the battery and not charge.
The car overheated and shut
let vehicle cool down fully, repair overheating problem, Obviously there is a problem as it overheated.... also look for a coolant temp sensor or engine overheat protection sensor which shuts it down to protect it from cooking the motor.

Hi, unfortunately your voltage regulator is controlled by the PCM. If the 120 amp charge fuse is good and the alternator is good; then the PCM is probably bad, as your mechanic is suggesting.
