How many oxygen sensors does a safari van have
Common symptoms for failure:
- Check Engine light is on.
- Car is getting poor gas mileage.
- Emission test fails.
- The O2 sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold to monitor how much unburned oxygen is in the exhaust as the exhaust exits the engine.
- Starting with a few vehicles in 1994 and 1995, and all 1996 and newer vehicles, the number of oxygen sensors per engine has doubled. A second oxygen sensor is now used downstream of the catalytic converter to monitor converter operating efficiency. On V6 or V8 engines with dual exhausts, this means up to four O2 sensors (one for each cylinder bank and one after each converter) may be used.
- This site gives generic info, with a list of: Most O2 sensor problems will cause the OBD II system to set one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and turn on the Check Engine light. These are the OBD codes associated with O2 sensor faults: 39 listed You need to test and get the code that in turn tells which sensor.
- The code displayed on your scan tool will indicate the type of fault, and identify one of the oxygen sensors by its position in the exhaust system.
The oxygen sensor's location will be identified by position (sensor 1, sensor 2 or sensor 3), and by cylinder bank (bank 1 or bank 2).
Most late model engines have multiple oxygen sensors, so which one is sensor 1, 2 or 3, and how do you know which cylinder bank is 1 or 2?
On straight four and six cylinder engines, there is only one bank of cylinders. So all of the oxygen sensors will be bank 1. The oxygen sensor or Air/Fuel sensor closest to the engine in the exhaust manifold will always be Sensor 1. The O2 sensor located in or behind the catalytic converter will be Sensor 2.
On V6 and V8 engines, Sensor 1 will always be on the SAME side as the Number ONE cylinder in the engine's firing order. On GM and Chrysler V6 and V8 engines, cylinder number one is typically the LEFT front cylinder on the driver's side in a rear-wheel drive car or truck.
On a GM front-wheel drive car or minivan with a transverse (sideways) mounted engine, the number one cylinder is on the front side of the engine (closest to the radiator) on the right (passenger side) of the engine.

1994 safari serengeti will not turn over from ignition on dash will start from remote cleaned all contacts and replaced ignition switch sol are good batteries are new
If I see your problem correctly. The engine starts but won't run but it runs with a remote control. If this is your problem then I will check with a test light at the connector under the dash on the column steering if there is + on the run ignition switch position.
Meaning
1. Unplug anything to make the engine to won't starts the engine(security)
2. Turn the ignition switch to start or run back and forth then backprobe terminals at the column steering to see if you have + switching between the on position and the run position. if not find out the IGNITION SWITCH assembly or WIRES problems or terminals (no contact) at the connector.(Not the ignition solenoid like you say)
Hope it helps.
I have a 2001 GMC sierra denali 6.0 2500. replaced the starter and took battery out to recharge it and now truck starts then dies right away like it is not getting fuel
Anti-theft light lit on the instrument cluster (SECURITY) .
The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key turns the lock cylinder. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the Passlockā¢ sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previously learned voltage code. If the codes match, a class 2 message is sent from the BCM to the powertrain control module (PCM)/vehicle control module (VCM). The message enables the fuel injectors.
I have a 1998 Safari
there will be fault codes if the correct scanner is used
there is a protocol required for several manufacturers ECM units which require a correct protocol in the scanner before the codes are revealed
How to change the fuel filter on a 97 GMC safari
Maker sure no fuel pressure on the system before you take any fuel lines loose. Usually after the vehicle sits over night w/o the key being cycled, not much pressure, but, you still need to be aware. The filter I looked at had threaded fittings on both ends, so use a couple of wrenches, take it loose slowly and try to wiggle line and or old fuel filter, just in case of pressure. Use a catch pan, gas will probably run out of lines, if you think too much gas runs out, plug the lines till you get ready to go back with new filter, just remember to remove plugs.
If you use a drop lite, don't place it where gas can't get on it.
