After changing the IAC valve, my 03 Escape still takes too long to idle down, what else could it be?
Use brake clean and a toothbrush. Clean the inside of the throttle body as far as you can. Also clean the back of the throttle plate and where it seats. Pull the mass air flow sensor and spray it down thoroughly. Front and back. Don't use the brush on it. You can break it. Reassemble it and remove the top part of the air filter. Start the engine, it will take a second or two to start. The rev it up and spray the brake clean the the breather top. You don't have to use all the brake clean. This will help with the high RPM's. PS.. replace the air filter if it is ditry.

complicated problem if im not seeing the viehical my first guess is on the intake manifold you have o rings sealing it to the heads these leak causing a vacume problem .about 500 dollar fix mostley labour. next map sensor even a loose gas cap can cause this .so you are going to have to go and get a code reader finds a code then post the code or go to the ford dealer .don't do the o rings your self the little nuts are held in by plastic if you strip one you have wasted your time and money and will need the dealer any ways. they have to glue them in wait for drying time ect gets pricey . torque on the bolts is like 22 to 28 ft lbs .< check that.
