Engine backfires and also loses power when going up hills. the check engine light is off.

Either you have ignition component problems...i.e coil pacs, ignition modules, spark plug wires and connections .....or something is wrong with the vehicles timing i.e cam problems , pcm, cam position modules...Have the vehicle put on an analyzer anyway. There may still be a code stored even thought the check engine light did not come on.

Need ignition key code

When the anti theft system was created, the dealers forgot to tell the new car buyers about how much the fob matters to the vehicle, without it,owners are stuck, your anti theft device is activated, you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob, call your car dealer to get a new one, they are programmed for each car only, you cannot bypass it.if you lost your fob or never had it,whatever, you need to have the exact fob that came with that car from the factory, the key and fob have a chip in them that only go to that certain car,if you do not have it,then you need to buy a new one from the dealer or ebay and then you need to contact your dealer about programming the fob to your car,you might not have to have it towed if they have the documents from the car,the only other way is to get a junk car, with the steering column, key, fob and all computer boxes and door locks and switch them,i just did that with a 98 dodge dakota,i havent finished yet,im hoping it works.

I have 2000 ford expedition and last few weeks its been making a whistling noise when accelerate, then past few days it's been running rough, idel low and shakes a bit then today check engine ligh

You might check the pulleys that the serpentine belt runs on. Make sure all are free wheeling and not loose or rough or make noise. You would need to remove the belt to check them.

I replaced the starter on my ford expadition 2000 triton and now it won't start please help

Try looking at the connection that goes into your battery. Sometimes it gets loose and needs to be tightened or replaced if it is not reaching far enough in to connect a charge. Test that by putting a basic wrench on the positive bolt and keep it tightly on there with a rubber band. Then try starting it. If it starts then it is the connection. Be very careful not to tighten it too much or it will break then you will have a bigger problem. You may need the part that keep the connection in place. don't know what that is called, sorry. But most car parts places will know if you describe what is happening.

In my 2000 ford expedition my temp gauge keep jumping back and fourth when I run my ac. Y?

Running the AC does increase load on the engine, and thus heating, so if gauge changes gradually, this is because the compressor kicks in for a while, then kicks out. If cooling system is not working properly, small additional load could cause temp change. Other possibility is compressor going bad and causing excess drag. If change is sudden, loose wire somewhere near compressor could be the issue.

Could a vacuum leak cause a 2000 expedtion not to start?

It would have to be one huge leak, and even then it should still try, being fuel injected. You need to determine what you are missing. An engine needs 3 things to run....fuel, spark, and compression. These things also have to happen in the right order and time and amounts. Check your fuel pressure and listen for the pump to run, which is located in the tank. Check that you have spark to the plugs. And if you have both of those, make sure you have compression in all cylinders. I would expect you to find lack of fuel or spark though.

2000 Expedition and we removed the ignition switch without disconnecting the negative from battery. When we put the ignition switch back in, the truck will not start. It won't turn over or anything.

you probably have blown the main starting/generating 100amp fus e, located in the engine compatment fuse box located by the battery, also check all the other fuses's as can do a lot of damage when working with battery connected

2000 Expedition is idling badly and stalling.

Have you changed your fuel filter? When is the last time you changed your sparkplugs? Have you had any codes on the computer? Heres what I would do. First change your sparkplugs. This is a 4-6 hour job. You have to unbolt the cop(coil on plug assembly). After you change the plugs your truck will run rough. Drive it around the block then back to your house. It will take 3-5 restarts before your truck quits running rough. Reason for this is because your computer is trying to "relearn" the firing order. I have done this several times so i know what i am talking about. You can even look it up. Your 2000 expedition is a dang good truck with a great engine. After your computer relearns the firing order then the rough idle will be gone. Then I would take it out on the freeway and run it hard for 5-10 miles. If you experience a miss or two then that means you need a new cop(s). Get a code reader and it will tell you which cop is bad. Cops are expensive. I bought 6 new ones on ebay for $40. If you buy from autozone or ford dealer then you are looking at about 80-100 bucks a piece. Tell me if this helps. Ford makes a good truck and the expedition is a great truck. Mine is a 2000 expedition also. I have 248,000 miles on it and running strong with no burning oil. Good luck.

My 2000 ford expedition wont turn over and I have a new battery and new starter sometimes it sounds like a vacuum

Sounds like your fuel pump died. Do a quick check by having someone just turn the ignition key to on without staring truck while you have gas cap off. If you hear a hum once key is turned on then fuel pump maybe good however has low pressure output. Then do a fuel pressure check. Engine obviously not getting gas. Before you go buy a new fuel pump check and or reset your fuel pump circuit. The fuel pump reset is on the passenger side lower right. You have to take off plastic door railing cover. Easy to get too and the button is red and easy to push. After you reset try again. Good luck. I went thru same thing you did this past december. However it ended up being my fuel pump. A real dirty job. By the way if it is your fuel pump buy the fuel line disconnector tool. And also buy a new fuel filter.

I have a new starter and battery but all my 2000 ford expedition does is sound like a vacuum or sometimes nothing at all what could it be

Sorry to say. But pull the starter back off and look at the flywheel. Are the teeth on the flywheel eaten off? Replace the flywheel. It will take a day to do on the ground. It will cost $600 to $700 at a shop.
