1997 Safari will not start unless carb cleaner

Have your fuel pressure checked.Sounds like pump or relay is out or fuel filter restricted too much.Remove the gas cap and put your ear to filler neck while someone turn's the key on,you should hear the pump running.pump run's for about 8 second's to prime fuel rail then shut's off till cranking.

Slow stop ok, hard stop difficult

start with basics check the caliper slides and pistons make sure they are not frozen. check the pads, rear shoes drums and rotors to see if they are glazed as this will cause a hard pedal . worst case I recently had a problem with a ABS module causing a simalure problem after performing a costly 4 wheel brake job it was a module all along.is the check valve on the booster working properly.

The front A/C blows cold but the back A/C is not.

The rear ac has an orifice tube. This restricts the flow of freon.if orifice tube is blown through or the little screen is plugged with compressor debris it will not work correctly. Some ac systems use a expansion valve same purpose but the little valve can get stuck open and just allow freon to flow through.

I think transmission went out of my 97 gmc safari

As weird as it sounds, the oil level in an automatic transmission can cause a few weird things like this so maybe a seal wasn't put in correcly when they rebuilt and oil leaked out, causing bugs and whatnot since the tranny doesn't have enough oil to build the right pressure to operate completely. And if they rebuilt it though, they should've changed the clutch packs in the tranny, but it could happen that they forgot some, or installed wrong and they broke after a while or a host of other things, cause in some models there are 2 or 3 different clutch packs, one for reverse (but not on all models) one for the normal drive gears (gears 1 through 3) and another for the overdrive (4th). So if the clutchpack for the normal drive gears broke or is too worn out cause they forgot to change it, then it would shift in reverse since the reverse clutch pack is good, and not go into drive cause the driver packs are shot. Although I never did dismantle a safari transmission so i cannot garanty you have a seperate clutch pack for reverse or not, so ask a local mechanic that is used to working with those models if it is possible in this model or not before payin to get the tranny opened again. If it's impossible for the clutch packs to cause this and the fluid level is OK, then the problem is probably in the valve body solenoid pack, and in that case it's bad news for the tranny... valve bodies are muchos muchos money and so is the ammount the garage will charge to change it.

My 1997 gmc safari is not blowing cold air. is it

Yes if it is just low refrigerant. If your compressor is still cycling on and off and the air is a little colder when the a/c is on then it is probably just low. You can get the refrigerant at your local auto parts store. If your compressor is not running you many have more serious probelms. If you look around some places will do free or low cost ( about $25.00) inspections.

Drunken steering

This system has an electronic variable orifice steering system. There is a sensor on the column at the base, it is a 3 wire sensor. This sensor will give you the tight or loose feeling. It is easy to change with basic tools. The orifice this sensor controls is a 2 wire solinoid on the pressure port of the power steering pump. If you have changed the pump look to be sure you still have this 2 wire solinoid. Good Luck.

Transmission stays in 2nd gear when i stop 1997 gmc safari

what that means is that you have a solenoid in the transmission that is either sticking or is no longer any good. you don't have to replace the wholetransmission but need a replacement solenoid/and or pump.
