Sounds like a bad stepper motor in the instrument cluster. These are known to go bad. I had the same issue with my speedometer. Found the part on EBay for around $10. The hardest part with replacing it is that you have to unsolder the old one from the circuit board and then solder the new one on. There are a few good DIYs online that show you how to do it step by step. -Scott

The rack and pinion will cost you around 150 or so. Labor should be 4 hours. Then you may want to get an alignment.

the rack and pinion is a whole unit, there isn't a right or a left.

just had the same problem and i ended up having to change the altenator, for 2 or 3 weeks i would have to bang on the altenator with a hammer while it was running because my battery light would keep coming on. but after a few taps with a hammer you could actually here it start working again. i did that one to many times and broke the housing on the altenator and eventually had to replace it.

It may be the motor, some times if you have the door open with the key on and hit with your fist the lower towards the front of the inside of the door panel it will jar the motor enough to allow it to go up. (hold the swith in the up position while you do this)

have rear air? lines run along frame to rear of vehicle look very closely there is a lot of bends and turns hose to steel and up through the floor slow leaks might not be visible untill operating temp

I have heard that once that sensor goes bad there is nothing left to do but replace it. Sorry, but that is the best educated guess I can give. wish it was something that did not cost anything but your time and effort. good luck. Tim
