Fuel Pressure regulator ..maybe Turn the Key to the 'ON' position, the fuel pump should run for about 1 second. listen for it. Do this a few times without trying to start the car. This should pressurize the system. now try starting the car. There may be air in the system from changing the filter.

Walt, You will hear the fuel pump at times. When you take the gas cap off the fuel tank is acting somewhat as an echo chamber that is amplifying the noise of the fuel pump. Presumably the engine is ticking over when you remove the gas cap? Otherwise the fuel pump should not be running. The fuel pump only supplies fuel on demand - obviously. The pump will run to pressurise the system to meet demand and if that demand for fuel fluctuates, the pump will run down or increase speed accordingly. This speeding up and running down of the pump is constant. If by 'a miss' you mean that the fuel pump goes quiet for a second or so - that's normal. No demand for fuel - the pump doesn't run. That wouldn't effect the engine at tickover. If the 'miss' is from the engine at tickover that's more than likely to be a plug. If your car runs okay at speed and doesn't cut out and then will restart almost immediately, it sounds as though your fuel pump is okay.

Mass airflow sensor ? Is the check engine light lit ? What engine - 3.8 or 4.6 ? TPS - throttle postion sensor

Highly suspect the ignition control module.

it the starter because that what happened to my truck but the lights were on in everything was working but it was starter that was wrong or might be the battery best is it the starter

check your battery and connections first

Go to your local autozone or advanced...it's free to have them tell you which code it is...prob a disconnected or bad sensor

in park warm to hot fluid, into the cross hatch marked area (level ground) if you have a dipstick some gm models just have a cap the fluid level is checked from under the car there is a small bolt you remove (in tranny by axle ) runs out if full

Look at the body control module.

Swap it with the horn relay. If the windows work, then the original relay is bad.

stick a small screw driver in the spark plug boot, hold it 1/8 inch from a ground crank engine and see if there is spark, may take two people.

if you have multiple coils then there will be a regular misfire on a particular cylinder. If you have sets of coils then the coil that handles a set of plugs will misfire on those plugs. If you have one coil to do the lot then indicators are engine will not start, coil lead will show a weak orange spark when sparked to metal, engine will start fine and run for a period of time before the coil overheats and starts to break down ( misfiring), coil is very hot to the touch (burning ) after minutes of operation.

there is a tool that replaces the dog bone upper motor mount that allows you to roll the engine forward which tilts the engine to give you more access to the rear plugs. you can also remove the upper mount and using a large bar roll the motor forward and block into place will do the same.

you need a tool to rock motor toward grill it replaces motor mount just for this see most popular part stores will loan the tool
