Check engine light reports VSS problem

A specific trouble code,no matter what the code is,always has a diagnostic route that is available at pay sources like All Data online. It always involves checking the wires involved in the specific circuit, for continuity, along with testing the individual components, like the vehicle speed sensor.Remove the VSS from the trans, and reinspect the drive, and driven gear. The drive gear is attached to the differential down in the trans, and you have to actually look down in the hole, and verify the drive gear is ok and intact. Then look very carefully at the plastic gear that is attached to the VSS,and make sure the middle of it isnt "applecored" as this will cause the VSS to NOT turn or give a signal. Now,reinstall the VSS,and turn the differential. This requires two helpers, one on each side of the car,to turn both tires at the same time,in the same direction (this turns the differential) while you are checking the two wires coming out of the VSS,for an alterenating current flow, that would be sent to the PCM(ECU).Verify VSS operation. If the VSS is producing a signal for the PCM,then the only thing left is the PCM itself,or the wires between the VSS,and PCM(ECU).That goes back to what i was saying about checking the wires' continuity between the sensor and PCM.Make certain the wires involved in the VSS circuit have continuity, and good tight connections at both ends.Good luck.

Humming sound coming from the area around the

This could actually be a couple of different things. The first thing I would check for is feathering or irregular wear on the inside or out side of the tire. This can cause the whirring sound you are experiencing. The next thing i would look for is a failing wheel bearing. A wheel bearing on the way out can also cause the whirring or roaring you are hearing.

My 200sx is a standard

Usually when your reverse is going out means some trouble internally in your transmission. I would take the transmission pan drain bolt out and check for any metallic chunks if u got some chunks you may need your transmission rebuilt by an expert, or a new transmission, its really just up to you on that call.

How do you know if the knock sensor needs to be

First, try using a higher grade of gasoline in the engine if you're experiencing knock. If the higher grade of gasoline hasn't improved overall performance you should take the car to a dealership or trustworthy mechanic and have them perform a diagnostic. If you already have a "check engine, or service engine soon" light active on your dash, you could stop at an Auto Zone and ask them to use their ODB2 code reader (This is a complimentary service at most Auto Zone stores).

My 1996 nissan 200sx idles when i come to a

I dont mean to be misunderstood, but your question is relating to an idling condition when you come to a complete stop.....as my understanding of idling, is that it is the term for when the engine is running at its most "relaxed" state, around 700-800 rpms, no acceleration, and this is what the engine SHOULD do when you come to a stop.........so this situation is normal.

Unless, however, you may have got confused with the terms........or forgot to put idles high or too low in the description...

My car won't start, the lights etc all turn on.

If all the lights are lighting up brightly, then your battery has enough charge and your starter is definitely the cause of your no start. You might want to check your starter relay first though, since you just changed the starter.
