I need instuctions on how to put in an alternator?
in general alternators are al lot easier to install than people think.. you should be able to do it in the parking lot outside your local parts store. you could probably get away with a wrench/socket the fits the bolts that hold it onto the motor/bracket. the first thing, use a 3/8" ratchet to put counter the tension on the belt tensioner, so you can remove the serpentine belt from around the alternator pulley. then undo the bolts holding it on and it should come right off.. also, be sure to undo the wire clip beofore removing the alt. the new alternator installs in the reverse of the removal directions. **notes be sure to have your charging system checked first to make sure that it is the problem, keep track of how serpentine belt came off so you can put it back on the same way (it only goes on one way) and you will need to put counter-tension on the belt tensioner to get it on.. in some cars it can be a tight fit and you may have to move/remove misc things out of the way to get it in/out, this is normal.. good luck
Having issues with sputtering and or stalling
I don't know how to answer your question without a long storyEverything your & any mechanic did was wrong& a waste of time & moneyThere are step by step diagnostic steps you performin the way of testing for any problemYou have to be prepared to pay for a couplehours or more to find any or all issues & come up with a solutionLong story short you need a repair shop that is the best in your area. All the code checking, mechanics that talk non sense &install a few parts to make the boss happy, does nothingfor you, your car or getting to the vehicles issues.Any time you go to a shop that doesn't road test withyou driving & they have their scanner long, you avoidAny shop that clear codes, not resets anything, beforea long road test to confirm a repair is a waste.no goodto youNo shop should work on a vehicle without a cat, as it against federal laws to remove it,you have no fuel controlonce it's gone.To have a shop even put a scanner on it without a cat is a wast of time, you can't get any data you need if you don'tget an O2 Report, you can't control fuel trim, you can't go toinspection if you have that.
Will not shift out of park
Usually a problem with the shifter lock solenoid. You may be able to get it out of park by turning the key and unlocking the steering column but not turning the switch to the on position. The problem could be the brake switch or the lock solenoid.

- Place one wheel chock in front of
each of the Sunfire's front tires. Lift the rear of the Sunfire with a floor
jack. Then support the weight of the vehicle with one jack stand placed under
each rear axle.
- Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is a metal cylindrical piece located
underneath the Sunfire on the passenger's side of the fuel tank.
- Note that one end of the fuel filter has a nut, while the other end has a
clip. Use a wrench to remove the portion of the fuel line which enters the side
of the fuel filter which has the nut.
- Allow any fuel which is present in the line to drain into a bucket. Use a
tool for quick connect fittings to release the clip on the opposite side of the
fuel filter. The quick connect fitting tool is readily available at most auto
parts stores, and can sometimes be rented instead of purchased. Once the
fitting is released, pull the fuel line away from the filter.
- Press the end of the new fuel filter that has the clip onto the fuel line until
the line clicks into place. Then use a wrench to tighten the end of the other
fuel line to the fuel filter.
- Raise the back of the Sunfire with the floor jack. Remove the jack stands
from underneath the axles. Then lower the Sunfire with the floor jack and
remove the wheel chocks to complete the installation.
Parking brake
Sounds like the cable is not connected to the back brakes, or the lock pin is broke in the handle.
Drl and high beams dont work
Check the bulbs -- the daytime running lamps use the highbeams on the resistor -- There are two filliments per bulb one high; one low. If both high beam filliments are out nothing will work....replace bulbs if this is the case.
