Troubleshoot starting and stalling issue on 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix
The
following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any
electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.
The
engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is
only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter
the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in
most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory
of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as
the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done
is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system
for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for
engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained
technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then
based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the
correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer
replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the
problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical
problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage
on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well
such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure
related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause
many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other
symptoms.
Loss of engine power
Check wiring around the throttle motor assy on the top of the engine. This harness sometimes rubs through on hot engine surfaces.
What does a transmissiom computer do?
1997 still used a vacuum modulator on the transmission which is connected to the throttle body, the vacuum line may have disconnected or is cracked and dry rotted and needs replacing.the speed sensor is on the passenger side of the transmission near where the axle goes in, it is pretty easy to change. not sure if that can cause the ABS light but it can affect shifting, can cause the speedometer to be inoperable and can turn on the check engine light.
Misfire cyl-2
I believe that both 2 and 6 cylinder show up as cyl 2 on the diagnostics tester. so you will need to check the wire and plug for both cylinders.
How to replace ac blower on 1997 pontiac grand prix coupe
It is located under the passenger side dash behind the glove box. You'll have to lay on your back in the floor board just to see it. unplug the the connector, then remove the 3 screws from around the motor. You'll need to push the bundle of wires that run across it to the side and almost force it out from there. good luck, you almost need three hands
After replacing the radiator and the car don't start
to get somewhere to what you have might done causing the non starting, just go step by step from the time you removed the radiator to the last touch on fitting the radiator and just before starting the car. Might something you missed or something you put wrong.
