These vehicles are known for their antitheft systems failing. If you have that little black chip in your key, then you do have an antitheft system. Have your closest AutoZone perform a free diagnostic scan because this sounds like a defective mass air flow sensor. If it quits for good, the vehicle will either not start or only run for four to five minutes and leave you stranded.

My car did this and there was a mouse nest in the blower causing it to be off balance. Took the fan out and cleaned out the nest....all better.

The engine in the Bonneville is known to have problems with the intake manifold, this can cause poor idle and sometimes a smell. The pipe from the EGR valve causes the plastic next to it to melt, sometimes coolant can get into the intake. This needs to be looked at as soon as possible, because water getting into the cylinders can cause major damage.

You are seeing the beginning signs of a failing antitheft system. There are 3 parts to this system. The smart key, the ignition lock cylinder that reads the smart key, and the Theft Deterrent Module. I presume you're asking if they will interchange?The 616 ASw tag number looks valid,that would be decoded,1996 year model.the 3rd 6 in "616" is the year model,and the ASw looks valid as the actual axle ratio code,which i will have to look up at work,but the second tag,recheck those numbers,i can't make any sense of them.

sorry to say this, but sounds like the engine might be done, starting to seize up, have someone do an oil sample to see if any metal in the oil

Make sure battery is charged. You should have very bright headlights etc.Look for loose wires on starter. Remove starter & have it tested.

The turn flasher is located LH of passenger campartment ,attatch to sound insulator. Just remove and replace

Check the manual and locate where the dash fuse is. It's probably a large fuse. Pull it to see if its blown. Check the two contacts to see if it's bad. There may be a short in the system somewhere, causing the blown fuse. If not that, then check the dimmer switch.
