1990 Nissan Pathfinder Questions & Answers
My 1990 pathfinder idles fine but as soon as you give it gas it starts to die , any ideas?
Sounds like you have a dirty Mass air flow sensor...it is located mass air flow tube.( main ) air intake..try some cleaner made for it..or go to a auto parts site like auto zone and see what years and models it fits many have the same that interchange...being a 1990 you should be able to find one at your local salvage yard for a reasonable price,,new ones can get pricy...it is an easy off and on job..good luck..
What holds the lights to the license plate?
Look up into the housing over the plate. You should see two glass lenses, and screws holding them in. Unscrew screws, remove bulbs, clean socket with contact cleaner and refit bulbs or new bulbs after cleaning glass lense and reflectors on the inside surfaces as dust and water will have entered and clogged it up over time.
What would make passenger brake light stay on
Is it the brake light or the tail light? When you park and get out of the vehicle and see the rear light on put the indicator/slasher stalk in the central position. If it is in the left or right turn position it acts as a parking light on some cars so that a collision does not occur. It is a safety feature. If you put the flasher/indicator stalk in the central position and the light still stays on then you have an issue. Try it
Why does my nissan maxima door locks unlock themselves and there is a clickng sound
It sounds like there is an electrical fault with the Remote locking circuit. When you lock the vehicle, without seeing the schematic electrical drawing, there is a relay that will operate to lock the doors. This applies power to the small motors installed within the doors, that operate the locks open/close (Lock/Unlock). Generally there is an electrical componet that by passes the relay once the doors are locked so it doesnt burn out, e.g Capacior. With that in mind, if this component is shorting out, power will be applied and/ or released from the holding circuit which in turn, will operate the vehicles locking mechanism.
Best way forward
1. If you have a Gregorys manual, available from Super Cheap Auto for under $50, it will have the Electrical circuit drawing for the Door locks, if it's standard fit to the path finder. You will be able then, with the use of a Multi meter, to check out where power is getting to or not (12V dc).
2. If not give the Auto electrician $50 to fix.
As the Nissian is 24 years old, I would be looking for a electrical component failure.
I hope this helps you out mate,
Stevie C.
