On a cold start especially, my tracker engine makes a rapping/ticking sound. It sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side of the engine. The dealership said I need an oil change that contains additives that will clean my engine. I think it's the timing chain.
does it go tick tick tick tick and when it warms up it stops or goes quiet?
its your lifters not getting enough oil
when u change your oil it will stop till that oil gets worn out
you will have to replace the lifters or it can also be a slack oil pump not pumping oil around the engine like it should

Okay so it doesn't do it all the time but while driving my headlights, dashlights, anything will flicker as I'm driving. Stops while in park and just idling, but will start again when driving.
But as background info. There was a short in the wires when it was first bought that Chevy took care of. and There is currently a short from a fan that blows a fuse for my AC....THOUGHTS????!!!!!11
I had similar problems, with dash board lights and headlights flickering, and the problem was a dying alternator. After I changed it, everything got back in normal. Also, a bad alternator eventually will kill your car's battery, too. I hope this will help you.

How do I replace the driver's side door handle on a 2001 Chevy Tracker 4 door
Interior or exterior handle? Remove the door panel first. They make a special tool for removing the window crank, but usually you can get it off with a screwdriver. There is a little clip under the crank that needs to be removed first. Then remove the door handle itself, this has a screw in it. Then pull the panel off. With the window in the fully down position or the up position you should be able to get to the handle itself for the exterior. If it's an interior handle just remove that without taking the door handle off. This is all pretty self explanatory once you see it.

Is there a way to find out engine size by VIN identification? I have a 2001 Chevy Tracker 4 cyl. and need to know if it is a 2.0 or 1.6. VIN is: 2CNBJ18C516927235 I was told I can find out what engine size is that way without looking at the car.
Yes there is, and the VIN number is the equivelant to human DNA for a vehicle, and the 8Th digit of the VIN is the engine identification code, and yours is a "C" so the engine in that vehicle is a 2.0 liter, and the engine size should also be printed on the vehicles emission label under the hood.

what is the 420 code on a 2001 chevy tracker
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
The catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream O2 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the Check Engine Light if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things) a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.
Symptoms: You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms.
Causes: A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / exhaust pipe
Retarded spark timing
The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings
Some suggested steps for troubleshooting a P0420 error code include:
Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.
Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).
Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary
Replace the catalytic converter
One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.
Hope helps.
