My 1999 slk merecedes convertible top will not go down
This symptom almost always points to a mechanical issue, not an
electrical one. The SLK hardtop is notorious for needing to be
lubricated every couple of years. Here is a link with directions and
photos:

Sticking
joints are the most common culprit to intermittent raising and lowering
problems. Once those have been lubricated and that has been checked off
the list, then look into electrical issues.

I turn on the key to start vehicle but nothing
First make sure the gear is at P or N position if your car has automatic transmission. If it still can't start, try to jump start, if still can't start get the starter motor checked. Enjoy it

I have what smells like
Hi,
You have 5 hydraulic cylinders in total for your top operation....these
cylinders when they get old tend to leak and usually there is no signs
beforehand they they usually seep fluid for a few top operations and
then they just completely blow out...chances are you may have only one
that is bad right now, but what happens usually with hydraulic leaks is
that once you fix one leak(create new tight seal with replacement
cylinder), more leaks usually are to follow....just seems to be the
usual sequence of events with this model and the other MB models with
top cylinders...but if it is leaking from the top onto the seat them I
think the cylinder that is leaking is the one that it is in the
headliner portion above the passengers(#4 in the first picture
below)....but I've pasted some diagrams below so you can get an idea
where the cylinders are located....these cylinders are usually upwards
of $350.00 each at the dealer, plus expect to pay at least 3-4 hrs for
labor on each cylinder that is leaking.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

First check that you have oil on the hydraulic pump that it is inside the trunk on the rear right fender the oil should be between the marks. If thats ok check when you put the ignition on if the switch that operates the roof is on, should be off, on means that something is wrong, if blinks 6 times one of the 5 or 7 switchs are not closed, check one by one. check the two that close the trunk at the middle, the cover, the trunk limit switch, the trunk switch

The radio is locked on my 1999 mercedes benz slk
The radio will have to be removed from the dashboard.
Then post the radio make+model plus all the letters+numbers on any
labels, barcodes or engraved in the metal casing.

Muted on display no sound comes from radio
This happened to me just last year! I removed the battery connection for about 5 min and replaced it. Fortunately, it didn't ask me for a radio code when I put the battery back on. What ever the problem was, it reset itself and the mute is now unstuck.
It's the old power down and reboot solution. Works every time!
Thanks and good luck!

Most likely the relay, located beside the motor is faulty. The contacts get sticky. The relay is about 30.00. Take the plastic cover off the motor and you will see the relay. Its a standard type so most decent shops will have them.

ask your technician to check the actual value for all the sensors in engine control unit if something wrong he can see it's getting black in computer so if can see any actual value different then go through test procedure to confirmed what's the wrong this is the only way if fault codes are not recoded in the control unit, if can't find fault in engine possibly faulty electronic Ignition control module, ask technician to check the EIS, it's not much clear what you say If you could give me some more information then I might be tell you what's the exact fault, tell me what's you mean car not starting 1) it's cranking but not starting 2) It's not cranking 3) Ignition switch cant turn to starting position or on position. if you can give me more details then I will reply you my email address is

1999 slk 230 kompressor convertible top sticks
no the fluid doesn't need to be changed. it most likely is not seeing one of the micro-switches for the convertible top or the windows are not syncronized meaning the one touch/express mode is not working. to sync windows just open and close windows using the 1st detent on the window switch. when the window is fully closed hold switch for 3secs longer. as for the micro-switches the wiring sometimes breaks behind the headliner.
