You major service (tune up) is usually at 60k. At 45k it's an oil change, tire rotate, air filter, an inspection of belts & hoses

When shall I replace camshift chain on e420 1997,
manufacturer's suggested maintenance schedules are in the owners manual. if someone reads your manual and reprints it for you here, then you can read it? simplify things, pull it out and read it yourself.

Where can the blower heater be located
the blower motor for the heat and air conditioner is located underneath the glove box on the 97 e420
behind a plastic panel. it's easy to get to, but more than likely its the blower regulator thats defective
there is a solution to this problem without having to replace the whole unit which can cost up to $800.00. there is an s-class regulator that you put on the fan motor that will make it blow simply by
splicing a few wires. there is a company in cal. that sells the regulator for under $100. bucks can't
think of it right now but look up the regulator for e420 and you may get redirected to the site. drmack

My merc 200e is awfully sluggish when I start it
Hello! I suspect that the Mass Air Flow sensor is defective...It sits in between the air intake box and the throttle body intake...See picture below...It cost $270...It can be cleaned and this may clear the fault...Radio Shack sells a product called DeOxit a no touch electronic parts cleaner ($15)...Carefully remove the sensor...It has a delicate film inside and this is what you spray with DeOxit...After cleaning install and test the vehicle...This sensor is part of the control of fuel/air mixture and timing...It measures the air temperature...If defective it lies to the computer which causes the temperature fault you describe...Guru..............saailer

I need my 1997 mercedes
Hi,
Mercedes radios are supplied by different manufacturers and these are fitted by Mercedes at the factory. Which manufaturer is fitted is dependant on the specification of the car from new. Examples of suppliers of audio equipment to Mercedes include Becker, Alpine and Blaupunkt radios. Each of these manufacturers have an entirely different method of decoding their radios and depending on which version you have fitted, you may need to go to your local dealership to obtain the code.
The only one that can be successfully decoded outside of a dealership is the Becker unit. I have the software to do this as I specialise in radio work. To obtain the code for this unit, you will need to supply the radios serial number and the model number which begins with BE for Becker units eg, BE 6031
To find the radios serial number you need to remove the radio from the dash and you will find it printed on a label or stamped into the case of the radio.
If you have a Becker unit please supply the details i.e serial and model number and I am happy to provide the code to you.
If your unit is any other make you will need to approach Mercedes directly as Becker is the only radio that can be decoded outside of the Mercedes network.
Thanks for using FixYa and please let me know the detals.

Central locking on my 1997 Merdedes E320 does not
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you open the hood and remove the positive battery connector of the car and let it sit for atleast 3mins. then reconnect it to reset the system. Once resetted you may get rid of the problem.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1997 m/benz E220 dashboard blinks
Hi
Does the car have a dimmer switch to dim the lights on the dash?
if so locate this pop it out and check the wiring to the rear of it, also you can bridge the two connetctions with a wire to see if this is the cause, often the dimmer switch fails inside and the metal contact comes loose causing the flicker.
Alternatively there may be a loose wire to the fuse box or main lights for the dash.
Hope this helps
Regards

How to replace a burnt side lightbuld on 1997
if its the small amber light on the side of the front bumper. you can use a small screwdriver to pop out the lens or reach from underneath and push it out. once the lens is out just turn the socket to expose the bulb. sometimes the socket gets burnt or melted. there is a kit that Mercedes sells if needed.

Had evaporator coil replaced.
Your dash was taken apart to replace the coil. It is possible a connector was loosened during the job. If you can get to any of the parts that are intermittent, maybe you can trace their wires and see if there are any loose connectors along the way.

The dashboard lights went out on my 1997 500sl.
Try checking the fuses and make sure you have good ground connections. If you have to replace the instrument cluster it can get a little expensive so you need to make sure that you check the fuses and wiring first.

Radio code for 1997 mercedes e420
Hi,
These radio codes are not presented in radio for safety purpose and only your Mercedes Benz dealer can tell you these codes on producing the proof of ownership. These codes are generated based on your VIN number. This is the only way you can get those radio codes and not found in any websites. After using the codes if it says "ERR" do not try anything else further. Remove the radio and take it to the dealer or you can write down the letters and numbers from the top of the radio and the dealer will get you the radio code with the help of those numbers.
Thank you !!
