The inside door panel light on a 1999 corvette, are they supposed to work??

The most common issue is a broken wire or wires inside the plastic insulator of the wiring harness that runs through the rubber boot from the door to the body.

Why do I have to keep replacing secondary air pumps on my 1999 corvette

That is a good question. Have you been using cheap, remanufactured replacement parts? The reason I ask is because it is my experience over my 37 year career that you usually get the quality that you are willing to pay for. If you are having someone else (repair shop) do the work for you, sometimes it works best to tell them that you want QUALITY or OEM parts. Otherwise, they are VERY LIKELY to quote you an estimate for the CHEAPEST part available just to keep from losing the job because you are shopping around for a better price. When it comes to auto repair, cheaper is almost always not better. However, more expensive also does not necessarilly guarantee quality. The guys that do this for a living are usually pretty knowledgeable about which parts are junk and keep coming back to haunt them, and which parts go away and STAY away.Due to FixYa rules, I cannot be specific when it comes to brands, companies, etc., but there are a couple high-volume "re-manufacturers" out there that I would not trust to buy a bolt from them to mount the squeeky horn on my bicycle, let alone, trust my Corvette to them. Ask your local auto repair technicians, I'm sure they will be much more specific than I am allowed to be here.

With light switch on dash lights are tail lights

Hello and welcome to Fixya!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive batter connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. before reconnecting it. This will reset the system and can get your vehicle back to it's normal operation.

Please do keep me posted on the progress. I'll be glad to help you out. Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!

Doesnot charge

ok i,m going to assume that you are talking about the battery based on the information

the first thing i would check is the alternator to see if it is functioning properly if not you will have to replace the alternator also check all the all the leads leading to the alternator

good luck

Charging system fault

Yup, that won't be enough as it is normal battery voltage. You need 13.8 to 14.8 or so. Pull the alternator and get it bench tested. Alternators have diodes inside (one way valve for electricity, that converts alternating current to direct current, which your car is). and these diodes fail and leak. There is a set that turns on the regulator that fail..

All will have the same result. rebuild the alternator.

If it bench tests okay, be sure to guarantee good ground cuicuit.

Service colunm lock is displayed

steering column lock-pull key wait 10 sec. It took me 2 week of hell to finally figure out how to fix this. I read post after post and nothing was working.I bought the CLB ( column lock bypass ) online and the car still wouldn't move. I got the wheel to unlock but the fuel cut off would still kick in when I tried to move the car. I pulled the fuses that the other posts told me and still nothing. ok this is what you do. 1st if you had the recall done at the dealer you have to undo it. They put a wire harness module under the dash. I had to take theirs out before the CLB I bought online would work.I got mine at: ( adaptiveperformance.com) Once you take the dealers module out we are ready to begin. It's all in the order of things. Now under the passenger carpet by the feet is a door pull that off and you'll see a black box on the right, thats the fuse box..... open it. now follow this order. turn the key to the on position but do not start the car. now pull fuses 23 25 & 29 the interior lights will go off... leave the key on.... plug in your CLB you bought online into the connector under the dash..it's next to a big yellow plug and is attached to the dash. After you plug it in, put the fuses back in.... then turn the key off pull the key out wait 10 sec. then put the key in and start the car.....you should be good to go.

Car starts and runs a

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

This is how your problem is solved in my shop. Out of the box, I'd say that you have a problem with the fuel management system. However, there's a good chance that it's something simple and inexpensive like a clogged fuel filter or water in the fuel tank.

First a little background for your edification. You may be aware of all this but we've never done business before and all assumptions are off the table.

For an engine - make that any engine and irrespective of manufacturer - to run, you need three things to happen inside the engine, compression, fuel and ignition, without any one of these components the engine will not run.

Compression - Engine compression caused by crankshaft rotation and pistons moving up and down inside the engine block. If the timing belt or timing chain fails it will cause the camshaft to become out of correlation with the crankshaft or allow the camshaft to stop rotating. Either of these conditions will cause the engine to lose compression and sometimes cause internal engine damage.

Fuel Delivery System - The fuel system includes: fuel pump, fuel injectors, pressure regulator, fuel filter and pressure lines. This system is used to supply fuel under pressure to the fuel injection system, the lack of fuel pressure or volume will cause the fuel delivery system to fail and the engine to stall or not start.

Ignition Spark Delivery System - The ignition system components include: spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor (if applicable), crankshaft angle sensor, camshaft angle sensor, ignition coil, ignition module, knock sensor and PCM (powertrain control module). The engine relies on the ignition spark to be delivered to the combustion camber at the correct time. If the ignition spark stops or is delivered at the wrong time the engine will not run or run poorly.

If Your Engine Cranks but Does Not Start or runs a few feet and then dies, follow this Troubleshooting Guide. Some of these steps require a code scanner. They are costly but AutoZone will loan you one for FREE.

Most vehicles operate by the same principle; basic troubleshooting procedures apply to most cars.

Step 1: Anytime you have a problem with electronically controlled components such as an engine, transmission, ABS brake, or SRS (supplemental restraint system, Air Bag) inspect all fuses using a test light and check the under hood power distribution center and under dash fuse panels. If all fuses test okay continue to the next step.

Step 2: To check for problems with electronically controlled components such as an engine, transmission, ABS brake, or SRS (supplemental restraint system, Air Bag) and the fuses test okay a trouble code scan is needed to identify any system trouble. Use a simple scanner tool to retrieve trouble codes and see if they relate to the specific problem, like a crank angle sensor failure code. If the trouble code present does not pertain to the immediate problem like an EVAP code ignore it until a later time, after the car is running.

The reason we repair non-related codes after the engine is running is because sometime false codes can be triggered by the engine not running. Once the engine is running again the code present might cycle and turn itself off. You might say "if the engine doesn't run shouldn't it have a trouble code?" Sometimes conditions occur that will not be detected by the computer, example: if the fuel pump fails the computer cannot detect the failure, so the engine doesn't start and the computer thinks everything is okay with no codes. If no trouble codes are present proceed to the next step.

If you have trouble using the code scanner or interpreting the codes click on the following link and use my access code (carrepair): Free Automotive Repair information for Users of a Code Scanner

It needs recharging if not

One of two issues may be at hand...
You have a slow draw, as in a glove box door light staying on, or something like that...
or...your battery is failing. You can get that tested at auto parts stores, better if removed.
