High idle after engine is warm. nothing is sticking with linkage.1992 chev k1500 5.7
Make sure the idle screw was not turnned causeing tps sensor to read over the spec limit, the next then is to make sure the idle air control valve is working , a bad valve will cause this problem and last is the stepper motor that controls the idle. some of these around this year used steeper idle control motors instead of idle air control valves and in turn the stepper motor is bad it will hold the throtle plate open to much causing the tps reading to be wrong triggering the engine light to come on. the steeper motor will be boltted to side of the throtlebody and theres a small arm to the throtle linkage. i will enclose a stepper motor picture and an idle air valve to show you, but this sounds like the tps is out of range due to this. the last thing is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks, spray crab cleaner around throtlebody base gasket and also the intake mounting gasket and see if the idle changes is so theres a vac leak in that area. good day. okay just did a little research and this truck does have a idle air control valve, the picture is encolsed and is screwed into throtlebody, check that and for vacuum leaks, make sure tps is good sometime it will test good when testing and go bad when it wants, you could have a bad tps and idle air control valve also.
I have replaced the battery and cables, starter,
if it just clicks when turning to start. if battery is ok. it is the starter solinoid on starter, that heats up then it will not start till it gets cool again. but if you can get a starter at a reasonable cost. go for it. good-day ! The symptom of a bad solenoid includes a rapid clicking sound indicating
it is receiving too little power from the car battery. This lack of
power may be from a low battery or corrosion of the battery cables
causing the engine to not start. Corrosion is also possible in the
internal solenoid connections, or a blocked plunger may lead to the
solenoid being flooded with power and burning out the internal
connections to damage the unit. Clicking on attempted ignition should be
a warning to have the starter system checked. It can easily be located on any vehicle by following the path of the
positive red cable from the battery to its direct connection to the
solenoid. if you engage the ignition switch and the engine does not turn but
instead emits a repetitive clicking sound, your solenoid is stuck open
or closed and will need to be replaced.
How do i replace the distributor on a 1500 chevy
Usually they have one bolt holding them in, it is at the base of the distributor. Take off the cap and undo the bolt and lift it out.
You should not be able to put a distributor in wrong as they will only fit in one position. The base of the drive shaft has an offset connection. Make sure you mark the timing position before you take it out.
I cant get the belt back on the new alternator
First thing to check is the size of the pulley on the alternator. If you are replaceing the belt check the length. If the pulley and belt are the same size/length as the originals then you probably need to rotate the tensioner further or check the belt routing and insure that the belt is in the grooves on all the pulleys.
My fuel gauge won't work?
most often it is the fuel level sender, this is a variable resistor attached to a float inside the gas tank. so before you start pulling out the dashboard, drop the tank and take a look at the sender. on a car that old often the float has become corrupted and no longer floats on top the gas. before you drop the tank and pull out the sender, make sure you can buy a new replacement for it. there is generally a large O-ring around the hole it inserts in, get your hands on one of those too before you begin. the gas tank hanger straps may be too old to come apart and reassemble too so have a contingency plan for that. if the fuel pump is in the tank with the sender, there is some chance the sender was not reconnected when that was replaced if the problem arose after the pump replacement.
good luck
1992 chevy truck wiring diagram
The best way to get a wiring diagram for your truck is to buy a Haynes manual (about $25) for your truck at the auto part store. It'll give you a lot more than just the wiring diagram.
