Also, for 1987 Olds 98, heat works through defrost. But the other climate controls for floor and vent don't work?

You either have a loss of vacuum to the vacuum mode control switch in the heater control panel or you have a defective vacuum mode control switch.

In cold weather my 1989 Oldsmobile 98 won't start

Ours did that and in real cold weather could not boost it. Replaced the spark plugs and plug wires and no trouble since. Depends when the plugs were replaced before. If you replace the wires take one off at a time and replace it with a new one. Some people take them all off at once then they are in trouble.

1995 98 regency died about a mile from work and wont start. Blew muffler apart while trying. changed crank sensor with no results. Checked timing and its ok. any help

It would have to be running lean to damage the muffler. Lean is an indication of lack of fuel. I would suspect plugged fuel filter or worn out fuel pump

I have a 1995 Oldsmobile 98 that wont start, lights work but won't turn over, but lights don't dim when I turn the key

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/ 25610489-tjuc4yuqtyhwy1g5ckyd5etn-4-0.png

How do i fix the problem with my service engine light, abs, trac off light comming on

you have a wheel bearing sensor that is bad. Take it to autozone and they can tell you which one is bad when they hook up their diagnostic equipment. You will have to replace the wheel bearing.

How do I get the obd1 codes from my 95 olds 98 without a scanner?

If your ALDL connector is a 16 pin (looks like an OBD2) but your GM vehicle is 95 or 94 then the only way to scan the codes is with a scanner. http://reddevilriver.com/aldl.html
