1988 Buick LeSabre Custom Won't Start!!
could be allot of things
fuel filter would not hurt to change but not likely
it could be electronic
are you getting spark =ignition module
if yes are you getting gas the the cylinders =are the spark plugs wet and smeel like gas
if yes trying replacing the crank sensor or a loose wire or fusible link
When I turn off my 1988 Buick Lasabre the heater fan stays on.
Check where the wiring goes into the fan motor itself.The power probably goes there first into a blower motor resister.If the resister is shot many times its the same symptoms your describing.If you dont know what it looks like you could stop at a auto parts store to see.
1988 buick lesabre shifting gears problem
Hello;
You need to have the linkage adjusted. Over time, the linkage can go out of adjustment. If this is a column shift car the mechanical linkage may have shifted from hitting a bump or such. Hope this helps, let me know if I may be of further assistance.
Thanks;

1997 jeep grand cherokee starts but wont idle on its own
Hello;
It sounds as if you have a vacuum leak. It could be at the hose for the power brakes, pcv valve or the EGR Valve hose leaking. You may also have a bad fuel pressure regulator. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks;

Trootle sensor
On the intake on the opposite side of where the throttle cable hooks up to the intake.
In response
There is a thick red wire which bolts onto the starter(battery lead).
There is usually a thinner red wire as well, which just pushes on a small tag(ignition lead).
Make sure they are nice and tightly fastened and clean connections.
The earth wire is usually black and is bolted down with one of the starter bolts. Again, make sure the connections are clean.
If you need more help, please ask again.
Thank you for the request.

Nate, I'm not sure what you mean when you say,"I can get it to whine but not turn over. The starter is trying to get it to turn, but I don't think it is getting any gas".
Separate and aprt from not getting any gas is the fact( if I understande you correctly) that the motor is not being cranked by the starter motor. You say "it whines". You are referring to the starter motor, right? the starter motor should not "whine". If this is what's happening by guess is the Bendix spring in the starter motor is broken. The bendix spring is a heavy spring that is mounter on s worm gear in the starter motor. When you go to start the motor by turning the key the starter motor turn and the spring travels down this worm gear and engages tthe geared flywheel and cranks the engine. As soon as the engine starts the flywheel is now turning the bendix spring faster that the starter motor and the spring kicks back to its original position. If the spring is broken it never engages the flywheel and the engine wont crank.
The fact that you say the starter "whines" is what I would expect you to hear if the starter is at fault.
As far as no fuel flow there are 2 ifs: if you have an electric fuel pump, then there is a problem in the fuel flow. If you do not have a electric pump then the fuel pump runs off of the engines motion and since the engine is not cranking, the pump is not pumping and the fuel is not flowing.
Anything else you can add before we conclude that the starter has to come off?

Won't start
wires possible. map sensor/barometric sensor, air charge temp sensor. some ideas.
CAR WANT START. HAS POWER NOTHING WILL START.
may have killed the battery causing the 'nothing would turn over...'.
if started with gas pedal, then cam sensor is not problem. things that prevent a start on that year, and fuel related is coolant temp sensor, map sensor, tps, possible egr. randomly increase engine speed is pointing to egr. Just some advice, but no means should you buy parts based on this advice.
Timing Chain
If the car is driveable, your timing chain hasn't broken into pieces. If it had, your car wouldn't run, period. Something else has caused whatever issues you have - what is the car doing that suggests a problem?

you need to set the tps voltsge o that engine between .55 volts and .60 volts. with a voltmeter- check to find one of te three wires on the tps plug and find the wire that has less than 2 volts on it. the other two have 5 volts and ground. loosen the screws on the tps and rotate it until the voltage is arround .56 volts. - good luck
1988 buick la sabre trouble codes
code 23 is mat sensor signal low wich is the manifold temperatur sensor return valtage is low to the computer. check for a sensor that is on the air cleaner housing that has two wires on it. the connector on the sensor is grey in color. if it's not unplugged replace it.
the code 34 is for the map sensor wich is located on top of the engine. but if you have a bad map sensor you would be writing in for a rough running car or something.
was someone unplugging stuf when this thing was running at one time? - good luck
1988 Buick LeSabre Air Conditioning Problem
check the vaccum lines going thru the firewall to the connector under the dash and pull out the climate controler aswell and run the engine.. shut off engine... and listen for leaks please rate good luck -jeff
1988 Buick Lesabre drained battery
Sounds like you have a bad alternator. but first , check the battery connection o the positive side where the cables overlap eachother. they like to corrode in between the two cables and do just what your saying. but it really sounds like you need an alternator. have someone check the red wire on the back of the alternator and see if there is power there al the time- should be. if so replace the alternator, i have had many new or not vary old one fail. - good luck
No get up and go
Try changing the fuel filter and the air filter. The fuel filter is most likely clogged up.
