Motor overheats

I don't know your car type, but in general, maybe- thermostat has failed, stuck closed- radiator hose has gone soft and collapsed- coolant temp sensor has failed- drive to radiator fan has failed (this can be hydraulic, electric or a belt)- failed head gasket allowing combustion gases into the water jacket

My car doesn't always start after a rainy day.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Overheating

A sticking thermostat will cause the Oldsmobile Cutlass to overheat causing serious motor damage. The thermostat controls your coolant system allowing enough coolant to flow through the motor keeping the motor cool. You can run your car without the thermostat to keep your car cool, but you will damage your heater as the coolant does not pressurize and get hot enough to maintain a hot temperature for your heater and defroster.Related Searches:

Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructionsThings You'll Need
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Nutdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Putty knife
  • Razor blade
  • New thermostat
  • New gasket
  • Coolant
  1. Removal of the Thermostat
    • 1

Pull the lever to open the hood to reveal the engine compartment. Locate the top radiator hose.

    • 2

Unscrew the hose clamp with a flat head screwdriver or a nutdriver. Remove the hose completely to access the thermostat housing. You may lose some coolant when removing the hose.

    • 3

Access the thermostat housing by unbolting the two bolts on top of the housing with a socket wrench.

    • 4

Scrape the old gasket material off the surfaces of the housing until the surface is smooth.

    • 5

Remove the old thermostat by pulling it out with your fingers. Remember the exact position as you will place the new one in exactly the same.

    Installation of the Thermostat
    • 1

Place the new thermostat in the housing. Be sure it sits the same way the old one was positioned in the housing.

    • 2

Place the new gasket around the surface you previously scraped. Ensure that the gasket sits flush on the surface of the housing.

    • 3

Bolt the housing back together. Be sure the gasket is aligned correctly before you tighten the bolts.

    • 4

Attach the radiator hose back to the thermostat assembly and the radiator. Tighten the hose clamps. Tug the hose on both ends to ensure it has a tight fit.

    • 5

Refill the radiator with new coolant. You may have lost some coolant when you removed the hose.

How to replace starter in a 1991 Cutlass Ciera

I had to do mine recently. You have to remove the radiator to make elbow room. Then jack up the car, as the trick is to remove the motor mount, then jack up the motor itself as high as you can get it to go. At that point you should be able to see the starter. That frees up getting to the starter. The rest is easy, no explanation required, it's just figuring out how to get to it that's a bear. Good luck.

Need location of fuel filter and fuel pump

fuel filter is under vehicle on drivers side back by the fuel tank mounted on frame in fuel line. fuel pump is in the tank. the easiest way to remove the fuel pressure is to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, then start car until it dies out. good-day ! tank has to be removed for fuel pump to be replaced.
