1991 Dodge Spirit - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

My error code is 12 21 55. I believe the 21 was the o2 sensor which I related but now the car is still stallinn and turning off right after it turns over.

There are none they did away with band adjustment a long time ago.If it slips it need to be rebuilt.

If neither the front or back work, Replace the turn signal switch.

check for broken wire or bad/corroded connector somewhere. Use a volt/ohmmeter to troubleshoot. Start with checking voltage to lights, then work your way back to switch. Make sure the meter is set to DC 20 VOLTS.

Did the shop that installed it not try to rectify the problem?

The grinding noise probably means you need to put new brakes on. If you fill the brake fluid reservoir, and then change the brakes, the new fluid will run out anyways, because the new brakes will have to be put in, and the fluid will run out.

If the heater core is bad you will usually end up with wet carpet in the passenger side floor. Leak could be outside in the engine compartment also. Fill it back up, run it a while sitting in the driveway with the heater on. Check the floor and check for leaks under the vehicle. The other options are bad - cracked cylinder head leaking coolant into the engine, cracked engine block or bad freeze plug on engine.

Code 12 means the battery power was lost since the last test was done.

best post ever, for this failure. you win a prize ! that means the KEY line is dead. that tiny wire on solenoid is a KEY line. and can be interupted many a way the car has autotmatic, the PRNDL switch failure. (try cranking in neutral) i dont think any 91 has anyd immobilizers but some have alarms that cut this line. i looked at your schematic. (no engine stated) but the one engine has the very odd starter solenoid. 4 lugs, not 3 like normal the key switch powers one side of solenoid coil and the clutch or PRNDL switch grounds the other side. brown-yellow wire. if the PRNDL is bad, park or N location its bad. try neutral and wiggle the shifter in both spots all A/T cars.

It looks like the power windows are on a 30amp circuit breaker and the blower is on a 30amp fuse. Both are powered thru the key switch so if those circuits have no power it could be the key switch.

Most auto parts stores have PETERSON repair manuals that have schematics for every major system in a vehicle.

check the fluid level in your gearbox may need topped up if low.or flushed out and a refill if very dirty if smell of burning found change it.

Considering age and mileage, the pump must be sticking. Try to unstick it by giving some soft blows to the bottom of the fuel tank, or feed 12VDC to the connector, sometimes the wiring or connectors get dirty and you need to check the full 12 volts are getting to the pump. But with a 91 on the original pump,better replace it with a new one.

As replacement hoses are expensive, my approach (here in Mexico) was to go to an industrial hose outlet, and order them save the connections and replace the hose section. They crimped the new assembly and it was good again. As steering is critical, and handles high pressure, a good shop is necessary. But industrial hose oulets have the proper hose (and some even better than the original) and the proper crimping equipment.

Possible bad AIC (Automatic Idle Control), which is a valve that regulates the idle speed of the engine, or a vacuum leak in the inlet manifold.
